SJ80 Feul Tank Swirl pot

I am looking at buying a SJ80 Coily Fuel tank to fit to my SJ413.
I want to Fit an Vitara EFI In tank pump for use with my G13b Gti conversion.

I have found a cheap ish tank here in NZ but apparently the Swirl pot has come loose in the tank and is moving around.

I have not had a look at the tank as it is at the other end of the country.

How is the swirl pot normally attached inside the tank?
Is it a major mission to re-fix the swirl pot in place?

Just trying to weigh up weather the tank is worth buying or not.

i think it's spot welded - or the equivilent of being spot welded.

if it has come loose, i'm guessing the tank has seen a lot of rattling or has been dented?

not sure if this will help you but i found a 70ltr tank out of a holden wb ute that fit nicely bwteen the chassis rails made my own tank straps and it is ennginered cost $50 so if you have to attach the swirl it might be worth looking for a whole new tank.

The whole point of the SJ80 tank is that the vitara EFI pump/pickup is a bolt in.

I don't imagine that's the case with a WB tank ;)

slighty off topic but petroworks has announced a new improved long range tank
56l, bolt in with skidplate, and it has the option of having a vitara pump. i just keep bouncing betwween black so its not noticeble or white so i can see the fuel level

maybe i should organise a group buy :?:

Appparrently the tank is in good condition. :roll: :roll:
Might just have to keep my eyes open for another.

Petroworks tanks looks great but very expensive to import to nz.

its us$495 with pump and us$395 without, supposed to sit at stock height and clear stock muffler. 4.5mm steel skid plate is zinc coated. it weighs 23kgs and is cheaper than local metal long range option,

its a jump up in price from a $150 or so for the sj80 tank + $$ for pump but the extra 18L capacity and no rust in tank make up for it, no?[/img]

i have seen what happens to steel tanks with a decent hit inc mine, i'd hate to see a plastic tank looking like after i have been to it.

fill a a metal jerry 90% with water than beat the hell out of it, then fill a new plastic style replica with same water then do the same thing. if you arms arent sore from swinging tell me the result? :D




regardless i think in your case nic you need extra tank armour, metal or not

Does the Vitara intake Pick-up run a proper swirl pot and two pumps though? I thought they were just the in tank pickup thingo? or do they have the low pressure in the tank and the high pressure outside?

Also can anyone comment on the 'legalness' of this imported tank for Australian use?

vitara are single pump.

I've never seen/heard of starvation on angles with the stock vitara setup.

vitara are single pump.

Guessing thats what the 4.5mm steel skid plate on the bottom of it is for. 4.5 mm is quite heavy duty and would take some serious beating to damage it, I would be more worried about the mounts than the skidplate\bashplate.
