Question about my new Landbarge...

Post by lump_a_charcoal »

We just bought the Father in-law's ex company car, an '04 100 series sahara, TD auto. It has about 170,000kms on the clock, and is in awesome condition.
Plus we got it for $19,000!
He mentioned that he only gets it serviced every 20,000, which worried me a bit - I asked if he still changed the oil every 10k, He said no.
Is it possible that it has damaged the engine at all? I have always been told to change diesel oil every 5k, but some newer engines go out to 10k...

Thanks!

$19k is a pretty good price.

Some of the newer cars have 15000km intervals like the Triton and I think Disco, but 20000 seems a little much. Best you can do is start servicing more regularly, change oil every 5000 maybe and hope for the best. Take a close look at anything that NEEDS replacing instead of what is recommended in the handbook.

A new engine will make that purchase price pretty ordinary pretty quick.

Id give it a flush out with the stuff from CEM it worked a treat on my old mans 1HD-FT so it should do the same for yours as its the same engin with elec injection ...

Since using the FOC in the oil old man gets cleaner oil at changes and he dose his every 5 K and the filter every 10K now insted of both every 5K ..
Cheers

So it is 5k intervals by the book for oil and filter?

Would be surprised if that is by the book for yours, but would be the go for awhile to kind of "catch up". Most diesels are 10000km service intervals nowadays. However many private owners do 5000 oil changes anyway. Company cars rarely get that luxury.

It was only a "company car" for tax reasons, didn't get a flogging...

I'll read up about the service intervals, and try some of that CEM junk too.

Cheer for the help guys!
