Maverick front Hubs getting real hot sometimes (sometimes fine)
is this normal or are the bearing shagged?
sometimes they are too hot to touch and i need a rag or something to lock/unlock the hubs.
it doesnt matter if its 4 wheel driving or not.
any ideas?

Its normal for the hubs to get real hot.
To check wheels bearings
1. Jack wheel off ground
2. Spin wheel
3. Listen for growling noise
4. Wobble and check for play.
YOU will HEAR if bearings worn.
YOU MAy have to push pads away from disk (remember to pump brake pedal afterwards!
If smooth and reasonably quiet leave until next inspection.
If loose adj hand tight bearing nut until no more play and wheel still spins.
If noisy replace (See Locky)
Did mine last Sat nite.

Yeah mine get pretty hot but I haven't sweated about it too much as they seem fine in every other respect.
You do get a fair bit of mechanical warning before you really need to change wheel bearings - play in the hub and noise.
Still, if Locky is gonna show you how to check and change 'em then you probably might as well go learn something. One day you will be able to use this knowledge to impress a chick. And that, in the end, is the real point.

Yeah Pete, I think all that mud is starting to take it's toll 
As I said before grab yourself a grease gun, get some PBR rubber grease and a tub of hand grease (I have a box of them, your welcome to one).
Locky can show you all the GQ grease nipples and how to re-grease the wheel bearings.
Remember lubrication (grease) is your friend as mud dries things out and things will start to fail.

Be careful. Make sure you check them thouroughly. Your hubs will get hot because they attract the heat from the brakes seeing they are connected to the rotors. I'd hate to see you spend money and time you don't need to.

True, but on the other hand it's not THAT big a job to grease up the bearings and it is a maintenance item.

HM, I think the hot front hubs, is the start of a lot of troublesome problems.
Seriously, this could lead to the rapid demise of the entire vehicle. Thanks to everyone for trying to help the young bloke out, but, seriously, they are just trying to make you feel better HM, (pete) the reality is, and you will learn this soon enough. The vehicle has been thrashed too hard and is self destructing. I can remove the vehicle from you for a fee, but my disposal fee is not cheap. I will reduce the price a little, cause you are young, and have limited knowledge, but the car needs to be disposed of immeadiately, before something bad happens.
