Falcon Alternator upgrade. Info needed. 1.3L

Hi all. Am possibly going to be doing a falcon alternator upgrade in the near future and trying to get the info straight before i buy anything!

I have done a search, and checked the bible. Am i blind, or does the bible not cover the conversion?

Anyway, the info i couldn't 'confirm' is:

EF/EL 6 cyl alternators seem to be the ones to get. How many different alternators come out in these 2 models, and which one should i be looking for? Will any alt from these 2 models fit?

Can the Sierra pulley be fitted to the falcon alternator? If not, which make/model of car can a pulley be sourced from?
If possible, i'd like to not have to change the other pulleys on the engine.

Also, i couldn't find info on wiring up the dash light to the alt

Any other info would be appreciated!

do you have a 1l or 1.3l engine?

i dont think the falcon upgrade applies to the 1l engine

do a search and you will find a heap of info already discussed about doing this. The alt you need is the 110amp mitsubishi alt from the ef/el 6cly.

The 100amp or the bosche alts dont fit.

I have searched, but still cannot find the answers to the rest of my Q's.

How do you tell the 110 Mitsu alt from the 100? is there a sticker or part No.? Im going to try get one from pick-a-part (remove your own parts) but if i have to ring around, just need some extra info so the 'highly skilled parts wreckers' remove the right one for me (which in your case i believe they didn't?)

Also, the 100 AMP Falcon 'Mitsubishi' alts DO fit. They just need a little more 'massaging' than the 110A version. I have a 100A in my Zook. I am very happy with it.

The Bosch alts do not fit a Zook.

Just adding some info - I had a 100A Falcon, 110A Fairmont and 110A aftermarket alternator side by side the other day and they are absolutely identical. No discernible difference whatsoever.

You did not notice the raised collar/neck behind the pulley on the 100A alt? They look 'almost' identical - you have to look very hard to spot the difference.

They are different, but they all can be made to fit with minor work.

The biggest problem that the raised collar/neck creates is that it makes the pulley sit further forward than you need in a zook. Careful selection of the pulley and spacers can overcome this, but it is easier with the "110A EF Fairmont Ghia" alt (the one that DOES NOT have this raised collar/neck.)

To make my EF/EL FALCON 100A alt fit, I had to go down to my wreckers with the alt and try heaps of pulleys from a huge pile of them that they had there. I eventually found one that fitted. More info is in here: http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic137417-0-asc-0.php

It is very easy to source 100A / 110A EF/EL FALCON alternators... There were a lot more EF/EL Falcons built than EF Fairmont Ghia's! Finding a replacement alt for your EF/EL FALCON alt at the wreckers is MUCH easier than finding one from an EF FAIRMONT GHIA!

Has anyone tried modifying the sierra pulley to fit the falcon alternator?

Once the falcon alternator is bolted into place (pulleys aligned, belt tighterned etc) And the Positive terminal connected to the battery positive. Will the alternator start charging at this point?
Or do the 2 wires at the back of the sierra alt, need to be connected to the falcon alt for anything to happen?

Ive now gone down a different rout with my sierra as it now has a swift waterpump and pulley's. They are multi V and work alot better with the falcon alternator.

Plus alot of falcons came with the 110amp alt. every fairmont had one but alot of taxi's and classic had them if they had alot of electrics. Just have to check out the label on the side of it.

1) It is part of the Alternator

2) I think it will be much easier to find a different pulley (I think the shaft size is very different). The multi-V pulley arrangement would be a step forward over the stock v-belt setup if you can source all the pulleys u need.

3) The 2 wires on the back of the alt need to be connected. One of the wires is for the light on the dash, the other is a reference voltage for the regulator (I think) - without it the regulator will probably not provide any output (I think)... Info on these wires can be found in the links already posted above.
