I would like to compare the flow rate of these, to the new and old ARB compressor. Alsdi is selling them, and there are plenty that look exactly the same on eBay.

If you own one, and wouldn't mind doing some tests inflating tyres, please PM me and we'll try it out.

If you own one and wouldn't mind posting your experiences here would be good too.

Thanx

I have one in my work van, specifically to pressurise gearbox pneumatic circuits when drivers leave em in drive and run out of air. After about the 5th one, it could no longer make it to 100psi of the claimed 150psi max. Capacity of gearbox air circuits is much less than a tyre too. But, i couldve gotten a dud, you get what you pay for.

common pump. probably the same thing sold at autobarn, supercheap, ebay under various names etc.

personally i wouldnt bother. a mate has one and while it was cheap it is weak.

I spent a few bucks extra and bought this:
http://www.sidewinder.com.au/page154aa.html

Was on ebay. $150 i paid. i think i got a really good price.

Its a pretty good compressor. the gauge is inaccurate but thats a pretty standard thing. It pumped up 285/75r16 on a patrol from 22 psi to 35psi in about 2 minutes. The newest revision is apparently more powerful.

I have one of the single pumps and a mate has one too, mine is not to bad most of the time just use it on car tyres. my mates blows the orange hose on the pump from time to time. but good enough to get you out of trouble.

I had three of them in the Mav'.

Some of them have a plastic piston (apparently) and these ones suffer from premature detonation. I had two hooked up in an on-board air system. One issue is the current they draw. One of them regularly blew 40A fuses under load.

Also, the line is SH*T, if you are going to use it in an on-board air system, get good quality high pressure line (the good black stuff that looks like its got cotton bandage over it) for the first 2-3 feet. They develop some SERIOUS heat when they've been running for a while.

the new arb is the bomb- I had an old ARB, and decided to upgrade to the new one.

It used to take around 15 seconds of running to get the airtank and locker lines up to 100psi from dead empty with the old one, the new one will do it in about 4.

Given that Thomas pumps always do very well in reviews, it seems to me that if you were going for an OBA set-up you could do well with a Thomas 337: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0424337443

Set it up with a 130+ psi of tank pressure and I can't see anything else out there doing much better. And it's very compact.

My goal was to find a cheapie that flowed as well as the ARB, but wouldn't last as long.

Looks like for the price - you may as well stick with the ARB, esp as it comes with the tank etc.

Now if only my old arb will die. ARB doesn't do trade-ins :)

i have had a max air compressor for 6 years and used it very regulary and everyone uses it when we go camping and has never missed a beat.
There are plenty of copies out there that are cheap and nasty and don't perform or last.
don't pay twice ,spend the extra and get something proven.

I got a MaxAir about 5 years ago and it's now bolted under the seat of my GQ junk. It has never missed a beat and has been used heaps....it cost me $360.....and still out-pumps the new ARB's that my friends have got.
Another guy got a cheapie copy, identical to look at, as the MaxAir. When you turned it on it sounded like it was chattering and you could hear the thing failing....it cost $85......you may as well just burn your money.
