Re: td42 bolt on turbo kit
What is a tight budget??
Denco
AXT
DTS
turboglide etc etc etc
Search around the site, theres plenty of them out there,
90% of the kit ones will be > $3500-4500 setup on the dyno. Some people will obviously come out with unrealistic prices until you hit them up for one of the kits.
Unless you get a GU 4.2 one which usually goes for $1500ish + fitting + tuning.. Or hack something together out of bits and pieces.

ok, 3rd yr doesnt say much.. theres a 3rd yr spending billions on a Rodeo in the members section.wanna lux wrote:a tight budget is on third year app. fitter and machinest wages can anyone help me with some were a little closer to home

How much are you willing to spend? $1000? $4000?
You will always end up paying more than you expected with all bits and pieces. I have just turboed my TD42 recently. All second hand etc. but all up it has cost me 3grand. By the time you add oil, filters, gaskets, pyro and boost gauges/probes, silicon hoses, clamps, air-box and the list goes on.
Expect to pay around$3000 and be happy if it's less.
People have done it for less but it aint that easy to find all the bits at good prices at the time.

2001 GU Patrol DX wagon, TD42, Air Lockers, twin spare carrier, Barrett HF, 35" Treps, high pinion rear, Staun beadlocks, 60l Engel and more!
Yes, I agree with AJ. Just put a second hand turbo on my wagon and it was well over $3K by the time I'd finished. The kit was $1500 but there are lots of additional costs.
But gee it was worth it

giant racing was selling a full kit last week, early this week? should still be in the for sales, dunno if he still has it.
was 2K
i got my safari kit off him for 18
had a cracked mani which he repaired, turbo turned out to be too big, as it was the olddd one, so new rear housing and its awesome.
but if i were you.
do it yourself
pick up manifold, 400 no more for a log type
gt28 1200
probably go to something like a zd30 airbox for the better flow, as all the turbo kit manufacturers supply you with a new box, or a new bottom, so it flows much better 200 give or take
make your own intake pipework and exhaust, seeings as you can weld...i hope
should only need 3" pipe for exhaust, mufflers are over-rated, mine dumps at back of ute cab and i have no issues with it seeings as you can weld...i hope
get your feed and drain lines made 200
3rd year pay isnt bad, you could easy afford it if you take your time to save up. that said i dont know your living circumstances, might be paying 400 a week on rent, which would make it a bit tougher
then get a tune and enjoy
i cant see why you couldnt do everything new for under 2.5K
if i was to do it again, i would
just depends if you can afford to have it off the road for a week while you play around with it...
if your switched on, you could get everything prepped ready to go and do it on a weekend, just gotta make sure you have everything you need...

Personally I'd say the Mitsubishi is a better in this size turbo as it has a 360 degree thrust and is water cooled whereas not al Garret T03 turbos are.Burra Boy wrote:Yes, I agree with AJ. I think the full kit new isn't much over 3k from memory, we do sell the DTS kits, if it's $500 or so dearer than second hand go for new with a warrant

Ok lads i dug this out as looks like we getting my cousins truck whistling in the near future!!! was leaning to a decent 2nd hand kit and if one comes we still may but want to narrow it down to 2 brands if we do go new...
1) will be most likely denco. Mate had a good run with his and hear good reports and reasnobly priced and decent horsepower and sweet note...
2) i have searched but cant some up with a 2nd options to research and cost in depth.
any useful thoughts or recent costings or anything to help me decide on turbo option 2?

Denco only do one model for the td42? there a hiflow one? or just marketing?
Emailed dts for theres.... or someone got or can pm me...
List price being only the start of negotiations of course..
Approx mechanic hrs to fit one of these kits?

If you're willing to travel to kempsey/fredrickton.. Julius performance custom fabbed up a full turbo kit for my old mans shorty td42 for a little over 2 grand.. drive in/ drive away. They made a complete manifold and piece together all the goodies, it's a highmount kit like the turbo glide unit so there was no need to tap into the sump for oil drain.
They had the truck for 2 days and gave it a run on their dyno. It goes just as well as my truck did with a 2nd hand turbo glide kit.
Beware buying second hand gear.. or at the very least be prepared to put an oil seal/rebuild kit through it for piece of mind.
