comp spec high mounts??
hey guys
looking to set the patrol up for the winch challenge type events.
just looking at all the options around for high mount mods.
who does all the air freespools and twin motor type work to them??
i know there is gigglepin setups and flamin fabs twin motor setups but is there anyone else doing this sort of thing?
i honestly think the gigglepin is overpriced. i am not a tightarse and will spend the money to get a good winch just dont want to spend really big coin if its not necessary.
any help or info appreciated. i put a wanted add in also if anyone has a winch they are selling let me know.

Can't say that I've seen too many issues with the top housings. It is usually the power achieved that causes problems, breaking gears, bending drums, etc.reddo wrote: I think there worth it, but i also think there temperamental
I still think reliability is more important then speed. Most big winches I have seen hurt themselves catastrophically resulting in a dnf when used hard.

drill and pin the freespool, drill, tap and bolt the brake circlip, bearing or bronze bush in the support end, reduced diameter drum, longer drum, 6hp motor, air freespool, bracing between support plate and motor housing is a good start, Mal does all this stuff and it a great bloke to deal with.. you can always upgrade to twin motors later, but consider the upgraded giglepin brake shaft as this seems to be the weak link.

It is a shot load of money to spend on a winch that is ultimatel still second of third best! I've tried 6hp (with 24v) like few others in NZ and they burn out so quickly when put to the really heavy work we do that they aren't worth it. No one has finished a WC with 6hp (24v) in the north island without burning out a motor!
So I say flag the electric and just spend a little bit more first time around for a faster and stronger hydraulic.
Hopefully I'll have a prototype hydraulic setup soon that is simplier (but not really cheap). The advantage being that it will be simple and won;t generate all the heat that is normally the hydraulics down fall.

93 Nissan Pathfinder / Terrano Turboed VH45, GQ Trans and T-case, coil overs, hydraulic winch and fair bit of other stuff. (Currently a pile of parts in the workshop)
