hey all im about to put a td42 into my swb patrol. the engine currently has an older inline injection pump. how well do these go with a fairly high performance turbo setup. as im not sure if it will be up to the job. also how hard would it be to swap it over the a newer ve type pump from either a later gq or early gu td motor. is there much involved.
thanks for your help
cheers ben

td42 inline injector pumps
gudday, The inline Bosch type pump is in fact more robust than the rotary ones, We get them on some imported safaris over here.
Of the five patrol/safaris I have as company wagons I have one of them and its never missed a beat. It has 360ks and still going strong with a after market Turbo on it.
If you want to swap it over to a rotary type all the mounting holes in the block are also still there so cant see a major worry as long as the Pump timing gear has the same amount of teeth.
Good luck

just install it and see how you go.
if you decide to go to a rotary pump at some stage in the future you will be able to very easily.
the inline pump appears to be quite sought after here in Oz and i wouldn't be shocked if you were able to get yourself a reco GU turbo pump for the $$ you sell the inline for.

so all the mounting holes are there in the block. what about the front cover all the mounting bolts are there or do i need to swap the front cover where the pump bolts onto? cause i was looking at a workshop manual and the bolt patterns are different?
well the general plan was to get the motor in and running first then stuff round with the pump after, and also i have a slight feeling that the inline jobbie is currently leaking. hence my thoughts in swapping it over

yeah thats the one cause by the looks of the workshop manual(genuine nissan jobbie) the inline pump runs a 4 bolt setup wereas the rotary pump runs a 3 stuf setup. the parts should be fairly easily interchangable(with a bit of stuffing aroung anyway) but if the mounting points are there would make it a hell of a lot easier. if you get the change to have a look and can shed some light would be brilliant. and ah may be able to get it fixed on the cheap after all thanks for your help garthgarth wrote:The truck is on the road at the mo so cant check now, but I know what you mean- the 3 mounting studs right?
Mine was leaking also sent it in 170 bucks for seal and the job was done, so it may not be a major drama...
good luck
cheers ben
