well a little from colume A and a little from colume B..Wambat wrote:why not just full stainless??
dont know any one that can tig, or cant be bothered?
one of dads mate is great at tig welding alloy but has never realy had much to do with stainless and i dont really know anyone else that would do it for a case of grog..and local for that matter!
for the moment i'l get it together with the rubber bends and one day if i can be bothered get some staino bends welded in!

Stainless is easier to TIG then alloy Just more costly if you need clean welds on the inside as you need to purge the pipe with argonsimcoe wrote:well a little from colume A and a little from colume B..Wambat wrote:why not just full stainless??

THE HULKSTA.... Built by Nissan, Rebadged by Ford, Perfected by Me!
i wouldnt say, for a air intake on a fourby that you would have to purge the pipes, as it isnt food grade work.
and stainless is quite easy to weld, just get the fella a few off cuts that he can practice on, bet he will have no problem, and from what i understand about tiging alloy it is miles harder and moe skill required
i have done a little and would be confidant doing my own snorkle, however one of the guys i work with was a sheety buy trade years ago, so he will be better and will do it for a carton i will get him to do it, but if he hadnt offered i would do it my self

Go Hard Or GO Home
i let dads mate know that staino's easy to tig than alloy so he said he wouldnt mind giving it a go to see how good he is , but then i got thinking about sliding into something and dinting/bending the snorkle and having to frig around getting it cut and re-tigged...
so i think i'l stick with the rubber bends for ease of changing if need be!
on another note while im in the process of making my new air box up im thinking about getting a k&N filter(same size as commy one), now i know people dont like running these in diesels but what about petty/gas engines?
the snorkle will also face backwards as not to ram dust strait down the tube so filtration should hopefully still be ok?!
cheers
