Bleeding brakes???

Post by 31zook »

I pulled my lokka out and then bled my brakes with a repco solo bleeder kit. The brakes are responsive and feel really good but the brake pedal is picking up the brakes alot lower than before??? I made my car bleed and bleed (this includes all corners) and it still the same? And i have made sure all the nipples are done up tight and there is ample fluid. Can some one please tell me what the problem is?

Thanks
Josh

if the brakes are bled properly then it is likely to be the brake adjustment.

did you start at the brake furthest away from the master cylinder then bled till you got to closest one? if u didn't there might be air in the lines still. did you use brand new fluid? old fluid can develop a high water content which will also cause softer brake feel.

Um yeah i did all that, but the fluid is only 2 months old so i figured that it was good enough to reuse... There was also 500ml of fresh fluid through it. Can some one please explain why you work furthest away from your master cylinder to closest one

I just bled rear, front passenger, drivers front... i think thats the correct way? And the brakes feel good and solid all the way through till i start the car... then it goes back to only working down low. It is soild down low and i can't get it to touch the floor so im guessing its something to do with master cylinder... does this help with the diagnostic?

oh sometimes the piston in the caliper can seize if its been through mud then sat for a while, and if the back brakes are worn heaps more than the front and the adjusters arnt working it will also cause you greif.

Josh on your booster theres a BIG hose coming off going to the manifold, thats the vacuum hose.
Check it over to make sure theres no leaks.

Sorry for the HJ, that vacuum hose connects to a white plastic tube that sits in the booster. Is there ment to be an o ring or something on the end of that tube ? as mine has a tendency to rattle loose and fall out.

Your rear drums are probably out of adjustment. How much travel is in your hand brake lever. See if the pedal height improves when the hand brake lever is pulled up.
