9 inch high pinion diff

Post by lshobie »

Hi Guys, I'm in Canada here so I need a bit of help. I own an HZJ79 cruiser (ok start with the cruiser bashing:) and I'd like to put the stronger 9 inch GQ diff in the front end.

I don't know anything about Patrols as we don't have any here in canada. Is it the 9 inch high pinion that is bullet proof? If so what models did it come in and what years.

We have some nissan safari imports here - 1989-1993 models - would they have that diff?

Thanks for your help!

I though there where fixes for the LC front ends. Fitting an ARB locker takes the flex out of them so the pinion dosent skip teeth.

I have the ARB locker in it - just want it to be bullet proof. Looking for options.

with the arb air locker, get a set of longfield super axles and c.vs that will beef up that part abit more then id guess the only weekness is going to be the free wheeling hubs. that would save the hassle of new diffs needing to be installed. is this car daily driven or weekend warrior?

Fit ARB air locker & use a solid pinion spacer.
The std toyota crush tube flexes & allows the pinion to climb up the crownwheel.

OR
Splice a nissan diff housing on to the toyota housing

That's what i did
