which sikaflex

Post by DIRTY ROCK STAR »

i know sikaflex comes in several varieties.

if you were wanting to re-attach a rubber strip that clips onto the bottom of a bumper bar (on a 07 mode ford fiesta zetec)
which sikaflex would be the best?
is a black car if that helps.

the rubber clips onto the bottom but keeps coming loose espcially in wet weather.

cheers

As far as I know the common types are sealer and adhesive/sealer. If you are sticking something I would use the adhesive sealer.
Selleys make product that is similar and also made in Japan and works as well.
Bostil also have a similar product that is made in Australia but I have not had as much success with that (It is also a fair bit cheaper)

you want an automotive grade there are a few on the market but a lot are for the building indusry and are not as good.
I belive the best grade for general car stuff is the windcreen grade (ie vn commodore onwards type glued in) it works on screens trims everything.
most auto parts or paint places keep it.

I just bought 2 tubes of sikaflex 227 automitive specific application from bursons after hearing everyone rave on about this stuff, resealed the roof on my troopy poptop, very impressed with it ;)

The website states amongst many uses it is designed for attaching rubber body moulds which sounds like what your after.

it would be if she hadnt crashed it already.
problem being, it was repaired by an ordinary shop in sydney.
so to save the hassles i thought i would just reattach it myself.

cheers guys i shall do some shopping.
if you dont see me post in a few days can someone post up the best way to unstick yourself from a bodykit when sikaflex was used.

I've always used Marine 232. Half the fibreglass boats in the world are held together withthis stuff. If you want it stuck ans to stay stuck this is the one.

By the way always check the use by date on the tube. Sealants do have a shelf life and if it's close or past don't buy it.

I have the 252. When I first bought it I spent about 15mins deciphering the little pictures on the side of the bottles of the 7 different varieties in the store.

No real clear indicator for the first timer what type is for what.
