75 Series CV's
Seems like I'm posting in here every week with a new problem
My 75 seems to have a nasty habit of smashing CV's, previous owner had issues with it and I smashed one yesterday as well.
It doesnt seem to take much either, locker wasn't engaged, running 35"s, no issues on harder stuff and something medium difficult smashed it.
I'm thinking of going to longfields in the front to ensure this doesn't happen again as I don't really want to be replacing CV's everytime I go out.
Now I know they do them for a model of cruiser that is similar same to the 75 series but I am unsure as to exactly which one that is?
Does anyone have any ideas?
Also where would be the best place to purchase these?
Im looking at the 30 spline super set if they are available for the 75/similar diff as well as the hub gear kit as well.
Cheers.

Apperently the 40 series has a similar axle width to the 70 series, so a 40 super set might work.. Failing that, 27 spline outers only will work.. The best place to shop seems to be http://locktup4x4.com.au at the moment..
I have a 40-series super set in my HJ75 (HZJ75 runs different CV's, not sure about the inner axles?). I'm told the axle lengths are the same but i haven't had a chance to compare mine, nor check the wear marks on the inner spline.
Have done a few hard trips with them now with no dramas.

Is that the 27 or the 30 super set?
Did you replace the hub gears as well?
If you don't mind me asking, what roughly was the cost to purchase?

30 spline set, i did replace the hub gears too.Drift Technician wrote:Mine is the HJ75 as well.dogbreath_48 wrote:I have a 40-series super set in my HJ75 (HZJ75 runs different CV's, not sure about the inner axles?). Can't remember what they cost. Wouldn't matter anyway - i got them when the aussie dollar was waaay healthier.

hj 75 and hzj75 have the same cv joints from 85 to 95 the inner axle length changes in the 2/90 when the z was bought in the cvs changed to the same as the 80s cvs in 95 the same time as the high pinion front diff was bought out in the 80 .....just been down this cv joint/axle road thought it might help you.....
Thanks for that mate, appreciate the info.zoook wrote:hj 75 and hzj75 have the same cv joints from 85 to 95 the inner axle length changes in the 2/90 when the z was bought in the cvs changed to the same as the 80s cvs in 95 the same time as the high pinion front diff was bought out in the 80 .....just been down this cv joint/axle road thought it might help you.....
So to clarify, I am chasing a 40 series Super set?
Dogbreath, were the hub gears 40 series as well?

as said above the link is for you mate lockedup stock longs for 75s they are here

Yeah I saw those but I would prefer the 30's for a bullet proof setup as this thing constantly smashes CV's.zoook wrote:http://locktup4x4.com.au/landcruiser-86 ... 50cf1a2382

I would rather pay the money once and have less hassles, and have something that is perhaps overkill, then have to buy twice and have numerous hassles.

I don't know, i think all the hub gears are the same? Best ask locktup when you place your order :Drift Technician wrote:Thanks for that mate, appreciate the info.zoook wrote:hj 75 and hzj75 have the same cv joints from 85 to 95 the inner axle length changes in the 2/90 when the z was bought in the cvs changed to the same as the 80s cvs in 95 the same time as the high pinion front diff was bought out in the 80 .....just been down this cv joint/axle road thought it might help you.....

i have a mate with an 80 on 35s that was smashing cvs on a regular basis running stock cvs he bought a set of the 27s longs and now it just smashes hub gears ....not all that often though...if you go full longs in the front all you are doing imho is moving the weak point from the hubs/cvs/axles into the diff you will find you start smashing pinion gears i would rather smash ten hubs to one diff ....maybe you should change your driving style a bit pick your line a bit better? the right gear? less loud pedal? try nd keep the front wheels on the ground?......nah lol where would the fun be in that!!!!
Not driving style thats for sure.zoook wrote:i have a mate with an 80 on 35s that was smashing cvs on a regular basis running stock cvs he bought a set of the 27s longs and now it just smashes hub gears ....not all that often though...if you go full longs in the front all you are doing imho is moving the weak point from the hubs/cvs/axles into the diff you will find you start smashing pinion gears i would rather smash ten hubs to one diff ....maybe you should change your driving style a bit pick your line a bit better? the right gear? less loud pedal? try nd keep the front wheels on the ground?......nah lol where would the fun be in that!!!!
I think its an underlying issue somewhere else, something I can't see or don't have the knowledge about perhaps? Unsure.
I plan on replacing the hub gears at the same time with the Longfield ones, worse comes to worse will send ring and pinion over to them for the heat treatment unless someone knows someone here in Aus that does it?

I think you'll find your R&P are already heat treated (at least you'd hope so!!) No really good way of strengthening your diff gears. Best bet is an ARB locker and properly set up diff.Drift Technician wrote:Not driving style thats for sure.zoook wrote:i have a mate with an 80 on 35s that was smashing cvs on a regular basis running stock cvs he bought a set of the 27s longs and now it just smashes hub gears ....not all that often though...if you go full longs in the front all you are doing imho is moving the weak point from the hubs/cvs/axles into the diff you will find you start smashing pinion gears i would rather smash ten hubs to one diff ....maybe you should change your driving style a bit pick your line a bit better? the right gear? less loud pedal? try nd keep the front wheels on the ground?......nah lol where would the fun be in that!!!!

There is an air locker installed atm, and the diff has been braced. Air locker isn't working atm (another issue yet to be looked at) so I am at a loss to think what it might be.dogbreath_48 wrote:I think you'll find your R&P are already heat treated (at least you'd hope so!!) There is quite good flex in the front which is about the only other thing I can think of, putting too much stress on the joint somehow, its running 15 x 8's with a 35/12.5 so theres nothing to really suggest any extra stress from the tyre/rim combo.
I appreciate all feedback especially from people with more experience with 75's/Cruisers than myself.

If not, try and get a 30 spline super set, real happy with mine in the lux
CV was pulled out this morning to find it had also destroyed the axle as well.
So the sooner the 30 Super set goes in the better me thinks.
