converting hilux tailshaft from a 2 piece to a 1 piece

gday people Ive tried to search this but cant find any info I need.

My brother is wanting to convert his 2 piece tailshaft to a 1 piece tailshaft. He has a 2.8 Hilux LN106 with 3inch lift and running superior drop shackles on the rear leaves.

I need to know how long the slip joint needs to be and how long the shaft needs to be made to.

How can someone give you an exact measurement when there are so many variables involved? What length rear springs? Is the diff moved back at all? How soft are the springs? Dual cases?

Flex it up and measure it, cut the shaft and add the required length.

I wasnt after a measurement to the exact mm...... I put all the info needed in the original question. Nothing needed to be added, no dual cases, diff has not been moved. The leaves are a standard 3inch lift, wieght bearing spring set from EFS...... 'comprende?'

simple question = simple answer...... and I got it (apart from your sarcasm)

-not everyone here owns a hilux mate (like I said, I asked on behalf of my bother)

-not everyone runs a 2 piece shaft (I stay well clear of them)

-2 piece hilux tail shafts is uncommon ground for me. Thats why I asked the bl00dy question!

Sorry, no sarcasm intended - its hard to convey the desired meaning over the internet.

I just thought that the most accurate way to go about designing a shaft would be by taking measurements from the car its going to be used in.
You could use someone else's measurements, but if I was going to spend the time or money, I would want it to be right - What if the measurements were for a hilux with sagged springs or different shackles? Maybe not much difference, but...

sorry to hijack the thread but im in the same boat (kinda) what toyota 1 piece shaft will replace a hilux 2 peice shaft. even if its a little longer.

Take a measurement from the transfer case flange to the rear diff flange and allow about 30mm for opening for your slip joint, being a rear there is no requirement for a long slip joint because the diff moves forward when it drops.

Use your rear shaft , give the measurements between the flanges to a drive shaft mob and getting them to retube it.

LN165/KZN165 (either that or a 167) SINGLE cab, around 2000 vintage runs a single piece tail shaft.

I got my single piece shaft off a 2000 3.0D Lux single cab, and there was a 2001 3.0TD single cab sitting beside it with a single piece shaft under it- Except some dick with a forklift had bent that one.

Paid $330 for mine with 2 minor dings, done about 96,000kms

2 piece has a bearing in the middle that always gets flogged out on lifted hiluxs.. one piece doesnt..

i've booked mine in for next friday

replacing the old 2 piece and converting it to a 1 piece

they're using the origional shaft and extending it. plus i'm putting in a new uni cause one is fcuked.

no more center bearing vibrations!!!!
