td 42 and std oil pressure guage

Post by macneil »

ok guys..

got my patrol back on the road with new motor.. now..

on cold idle the oil pressure guage will sit on 2 the bar inbetween 0 and 4 (im guessing its 2)

once warm it drops half way down on idle and when i drive / rev it my guage goes up to 2.. some times a little under sometimes a little over..

Would this be the standard shitty oil pressure guage or is it an actual problem.. i am going to service the car tonight.. with new oil / filters

and thinking i need an oil pressure guage sooner rather then later

also if i get an aftermarket oil pressure guage what should the cars pressure be on in kg/cm2? at warm idle

if it is not up enough how can i fix it?

The standard gauges are suss. Put a decent guage in and re-check it when warmed up to operating temperature. If oil pressure drops too low then its usually excessive bearing clearances. Oil pump may be suss or possibly relief valve but unlikely with your symptoms.

m8 I reckon it'll be the gauge. I've got a VDO gauge and the standard one and the VDO says 2-3bar at idle hot and 5-7bar at high revs. The standard gauge says maybe .5-1 at idle and 2-3 at high revs.

Spend a couple of bux and you'll get peace of mind. I hope, anyway
