GQ td42 urgent help
GQ td42 urgent help
Hi guys just have a couple of questions regarding my 90 gq lwb patrol td42
1. i just had my injectors and injector pump replaced but i seemed to have lost some power and running abit hotter than usual could this be cause runing lean underfueling maybe ? also just so ya know it had new radiator in same time, was fine before went in only ran warm when towing caravan about half on the dash gauge
2.and does anyone know what temps (max op temp) when should to start to get worried they should be running particully on the highway and if the temp gauge is working properly what it would normally be around on the gauge at normal op temps
3. also have read in a post awhile back about takeing out the precleaner from the snorkle has anyone done that is it good a bad idea ???
cheers guys any info would be much appreciated
Re: GQ td42 urgent help
you had pump and injectors done.
have you had the pump timing done? is it over fuelling? Blowing load of smoke??
take it back to who ever did it and let it be their problem.

if the radiator was just done then it may have a bit of air in the system still. There are two types of thermostats avialable- 76 and 82 degrees. The latter will see around half on the guage and the former will be around the quarter mark. Diesels only run hotter when over fuelled unlike a petrol engine. Timing should be set at around 0.75mm plunger lift at TDC. If not set correctly then this will cause under power and extra heat.
Yeah just had the pump, injectors and radiator replaced on friday because the old one was leaking and was blowing a lot of black smoke , now its good no more smoke since done just those problems where it lost power very difficult to hold 100kph and running warmer then it was before around town it sits between 1/4 & 1/2 and on the highway it sits closer to 1/2 sometimes on or poofteenth over @100kph but if i do manage to get 110kph its on half dosent creep up unless i put the accelerator down but it dosent achive any more pwr just temp creeps up abit aver 1/2 comes back down pretty much staright away backing off too 100kph just very frustrating didnt do it before hand took back to him the other day and he adjusted the pump up abit more but he said he wouldnt want to open it much more it did help with low end power up to 4th gear then just dies very slow getting up 100kph
Might pay to query whether or not he set the pump up with a dial gauge or not. Just lining the marks on pump and block is not good enough. TD42 engine is touchy to fuel pump timing adjustments. If it was blowing black smoke before it sounds like it was over fuelled and thats why you were getting more power.
