I drive a patrol and am thinking of buying some maxxis creapy crawlys.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they are like on the highway as i am going on a trip to cape york and want the tyres for the trip so will be doing about 5000 k's on the black stuff.

Creepy Crawlers 35x12.5s on a 8 inch rim crown baddly and drive like shit on the bitumin.
I had them 4 years ago when they had just hit the market.
The dude selling them was not aware that they should be on a 10 inch rim, due to very stiff and tough sidewalls.
A ballsy choice to do a long touring drive on!!

They are the best tires you can think of for touring?

I have copper stt at the moment but I have had two side wall punctures
and am worried about there durability.But I think I will be better off with the stt on second thoughts cheers for the feed back

they are a bias comp tyre not really designed for it you might be better off with a radial like a mtr or mtz but my tyres are fine on the black top and i have no drama driving anywhere. I do think they would wear pretty quick.

I wouldn't use them for touring its a waste of a great tyre.

I found my 37x12.5 were great on the black top. No noisier then a bfg muddy, and handled better.

Just dont run em at high pressures, anything over 30psi is pointless, I ended up running 25psi onroad and they handled well. The tyre had a nice contact patch IMHO.

edit: P.S. personally if I had to choose for a tourer it would be the radial trepadores

Oh really, did you have any problems with balancing them Grimace? Did they shake all over the show? You should mention that you had those on a rover which was full time 4wd.

We had the 37's on a petrol turbo GQ and it was like driving on a ice ring in the wet, as soon as the boost came on, they would just light up we were going sideways off the lights... Felt like they were about to come Loose on wet corners at 110...


Any tire will go the distance, its just how they wear, a friend of mine went to the cape from tas on a set of mudzillers, towing a trailor, and he loved them!! they were stuffed when they came back though, totally rooted. So for the price of a set of creepys do you not think you could get 6 stts? and have some tread left when you get back to do it again??


To be honest they will do the job so easy, but consider, "well i'm about to outlay over 2 grand on them, should i get something better that's going to still be there when i get back?"

I have a link to some 35s going for 18hundy on rims in vic, and they guy might be desperate to part with them, so you might be able to cut yourself a deal . there on TMR....

one of the tyre needed over 400grams to balance but it was balanced, I streeted them for awhile, drove on them to fraser and afew of the parks without a drama.

Did you have 40psi in the tyres ? ? ?

p.s. obviously a rangie is a gutless POS cause there is absolutely no way i could get these things to spin up, even in sand

nope we were on about 25 in the tires. hahahahaha you miss that rover don't you??, it was cool, i used to like it because it was different. You went straight when you bought that pos holden ute. I remember huge problems with balancing the set we had, but rovers were always sturdier in the front end than the nissans.....

I dont know how you would balance a 37inch tyre, but as stated above alot of weight, a 35 or bigger imo shouldnt be used on road and if so shouldnt be expected to perform flawlessly and perfectly balanced, big tread, big sidewall is all adding up to harder to balance.
