1HD-T big end bearings
Hi all,
I have a ’93 1HD-T in an 80 series that has just gone past 100,000. Should I be replacing the big end bearings?
Cheers

I would if I was you. The bearings have a history of delaminating around 100k and don't give any signs until just before they fail. Some cases have had about 60km from the 1st sign of change in oil pressure/tapping sound to a complete failure. Check the lcool website if you want photos or more info. There is a stack of storys about failures including vented blocks etc.Its worth it just for the peace of mind.If you're not the 1st owner maybe check the history as many were already done, some under warranty.
Yeah do it for sure. the early 1HDTs had a bad batch of bearings in the bottom end. not sure if its up till 93 tho. my dads blow the bottom end because the bearing failed and that was only at 130 000. his was a 92 i think. I no its a different motor but just stripped down an early 1hz which still runs the same crank and bearing as the factory turbo. it had 200 on the clock and one bearing had nothing left of it. crank was running on the rod. all the other bearings had decent chunks missing of them to.
