gq with lift knock in front end.

Post by morewheeldrive »

hello all. There's probably a thread for this but search isn't workin. Iv got a gq 6 inch lift. Thirds from arm's and iv got a knock in the front end i can feel right under my feet when im driving over even the smallest of bumps. Iv heard maybe crack in fire wall but i cant see any. Is there anything els i should look for? Arms are tight iv checked and re checked a million time's. Body mounts are good too. Any help will be loved.

My GQ had the same problem, ended up doing 50mm bodylift and replaced all 10 body mounts at the same time , knocking under the feet gone. My mounts seemed fine aswell but must have been worn enough to give a knock.

Hope this helps you

Cheers

yep, the old GQ floor knock. check the Bible. i had the same thing when i bought the car stock, changed radius arm bushes after 3" spring lift and 2" body lift and no difference. i find it is worst when i'm turning out of my driveway onto the road i.e. slow speeds. i just put up with it. there is a way to fix it, something to do with cutting and shutting part of the floor pan but too complex for me, especially considering it's just my weekend toy.

i had a sticky beak at the bushes and they look good. They should be. I only got the arms in january. Iv got the full bbm package. Tuff dog springs shocks pan hards 3rd's front radius arms and rear upper and lower. And 3rd's rock rods etc. Its really annoying. Fire wall looks good cant see any separation. Its a mystery wrapped in an enigma.

Sounds like body mounts, mine did the same thing when I got it, 6 years ago. The body mounts where worn out, as all thing do. You will notice a clean area around where it body mount rubber contacts the chassis, this is visible when looking up from underneath. this is where the mount is moving around, There is a metal spacer pin (crush tube) in the center of the mount it is this that knocks on the chassis as the body moves on the chassis. you will need new mounts.
you can fix this on the cheep by removing the lower part of the mount and pin and cutting the pin down a bit 5 to 10 mm, thus tightening the mount.
I found the under body cracking around the floor body mounts at the front and where it floor plates meet up the front. also up the inner guards.
I stripped mine back, interior wise and welded it back up, all good.
I have seen this before on lots of older patrols.
