Hi i'm new here so i'm sorry if my questions are stupid but i was hopeing if some one could fill in the blanks for me.
Q 1 Is the 86 style 4 runner diffs as tuff as an 40's or 75's one ?
Q 2 Is the parthfinder rear diff stronger then the toyota one ?
Q 3 is it true you only lift a car to fit bigger tyres ?

on par with a 40 coz they use the same size cv as a lux altho the diff centres r bigger in both the 40 and 75

which toyota diff we talking here ?? lux ?? cruser ?? hiace ?? if we talking cruser then i wood have 2 say yes but a lux maybe similar in strength

well we all lift our cars 4 different reasons, ground clearence(so that we dont scrap the underbelly over stiff anymore, and also 2 get the panels away from obsticals that may damage them), tyre clearence(2 b able 2 run bigger tyres, 2 eliminate the tyres srubbing the inner guards, and the best 1 of all is 2 look GOOD

I was just going to buy a play truck but did not know were to start from so it sounds like any thing with beam axles is the go then.
Straight axles are a good start but if it is for play and you intend to modify it then consider other things too.
Will it see trail only, some street or lots of street. Do you need a $1000 POS which you don't mind hitting a tree with or someting more expensive/ practical?
And I reckon most importantly consider availability of aftermarket bits etc. like diff locks/ gearing.
cruisers have more to play with i recon. front guards on 40 series cruisers are un beatable for clearance. easier to cut than a lux. and not as nessisary. not as much need for torque rods on a cruiser (not that they dont have torque) because of spring under. bigger bonnet room, for bigger engines no gearbox crossmember that hangs real low and gets hammered on stuff.

Yeah, that's right. Like 383FJ45 said, you don't have to do much to the front guards in a 40 and there is heaps that you can cut out of the back. Eureka offroad make some good flares for the back that are designed for rear guards that have been cut to the max so you should have no issues fitting much wider tyres legally.
