Run away 1hz motor (Turbo Desiel)

Post by Jonezy01 »

On recent forby trip half way up steep hill climb my mates 80 series 1HZ Desiel ran away, after stalling it in 5th gear and returning back down hill, we started it again it blew a SH#T lot of soot and splutted for a minute or so before returning to normal and its done the same thing a couple times since then, could any one tell us what could be causing this.

Cheers Jonezy

1HZ's have an issue with steep hills. Couple of friends on multiple occasions have had the same thing happen. one on a brand new $8k Toyota long motor. all have had to do with overfilled oil. not sure why.
Think it may have something to do with there are only a couple of spots where the oil can return to the sump.
there is a crankcase breather that returns crankcase pressure into the inlet manifold, they suck in a bit of oil and start running on themselves.

Not sure if any of this is correct, its what i have been told and have seen.

Its either what Ash says or possible oil seals in turbo will do it too.
