Picked up Rangie today, Just noticed that although all 4 tyres are the same size and tread pattern I have 3 different brands, ie yoko super digger by 2 one bridgestone dueller and one olyimpic.
This a problem when it come to RWC time

As far as I know up until a couple of years ago the had to match by the pair...ie two front the same and so on. But if you have a look at the auction joint, heaps of vehicles have 3 or 4 different brands on, and are considered roadworthy. I was at auto group auctions told that this is legal.

I had my 110 RWC about 6mths ago with different brand tyres on the truck 2 cooper 2 bridgestone and the spare yokohama.Brand not a problem as long as they are the same size as each other you wil get a RWC in VIC same goes for trailers. :cool:

i also just move to melb and also need tyres on my jackaroo,
i found THE TYRE FACTORY OUTLET 13 32 12 was good for cheap
just for now replacements

Have realised I'm a dick and that the reason the tread is the same is they are retreads. Any probs with RWC with them, one has some visible seam on it, weather this is deep or not I don't know.

RWC for vic requires that the tyre TREAD PATTERN must be duplicated on
the opposite side of the single AXLE in question.

IE: you can run a full road only tread pattern on the front a right and a full mud on the rear right.... but the front left must be a full road aswell and the rear right must be a full mud.

you CANT have a full mud on the front right and a full roady in the front left .....

Now ask me why ........ :rofl: , like VIC ROADS EVEN KNOW THE ANSWER

different brand stamps on the cases of recaps isnt an issue.... just the tread pattern !!!

The rules apply from a 6'X4' trailer to a B Double truck, the only exceptions are.... M/cycle with a sidecar fitted, Agricultral machinery, recreational vehicles ( we have a recreational vechile registration in VIC ), and "Special Vehicle" registered machinery such as earth moving equipment, heavy haulage equipment etc

The reason (or so I was told) was that the different tyres with different tread designs\compounds\patterns grip "differently" so even though the brakes may work perfectly you may still get pulling under brakes ..

Also if you spare is unroadworthy .. do not have it in the vehicle when you go for the inspection .. or they will fail you :shock: (because if you have it on there it is possible to make the vehicle "unroadworthy" by putitng it on.

This is true.... also applies to other RWC items like lights !!! basically if its there it HAS to work or be in a roadworthy condition.

We had this out a couple of years ago with a truck trailer's clearance lights, we fitted up reflectors instead of the "traditionally accepted" lights. we fitted 1 light on each side, in the middle of the trailer. It passed with out a 2nd glance !!!..... I had contacted VIC ROADS prior and disscussed it with them .....their response was .... " if it has lights ....they must work", as for the reflectors, the rules are oddly written, they call it a "colored marker" and the colors are red & yellow, was easily solved.... red reflector on one side of the crossmember and a yellow one on the other side !!.... the "markers" must be visiable at a specified distance at night.

ya gotta wonder as to who writes these rules sometimes and what condition their brain was/is in !
