plan to put toy diffs in
airlockers front and rear (tyres are gettin to dear)
33's or 35's will have to borrow a set to see bout clearance and weather the motor will push em' cos it is a daily driver
push the rear diff back another inch
also think bout puttin feroza springs upfront just depends how nice sam is to me and pushin the front diff fowards a few inches.
if i put the feroza springs up front hopin on 85 to 86 inch wheel base
well thats the plan see how it unfolds

What's the r and p ratio in the hilux diffs? I'm guessing that will have a fair affect on how well your 1.3 will push the tyres along...
I found my 1.3 would push 34's with 5.12's and the s3, but i think that the hilux diffs are 3.somthing? so that may still restrict you to something smaller (i.e. back down to a 33 or so)?

are you goin to put them on 6 lug rims for me
and yeh the wheel base is the main thing stopin me from goin 35's
what do your 33's measure round the 32 mark?

All joking aside (SPOA always makes me laugh) oops sorry back to what I was saying you should be ok to run a 34 without too many dramas
I agree, people dont break things with 32's 33's and 34's why go to hilux weight/strength and run a tyre that a zook axle would have handled.
What I am saying Tim is you will easily need to be running either a 37Mtr (I gather you like the MTR's as you are talking about running them again) or a q78 to make the conversion worth is, anything less will be unnacceptable.

yeh ive already pm'ed steve askin bout the ltb's but mine is a daily driver
i dunno how they would handle or last?
if you knew the stuff i ran steve you would realise that suzuki stuff wont cut it for long ive already took a few teeth off my pinion with 31's no i wasnt gettin it i was crawling with series 3 an 31's which is slow.
u can come up here and prove me wrong if you want to but i got my money on that u will break
berridale (sp?) will be a good test for use

Go the DD mate, just leave the 31's on for road driving.
You know I'll be driving crazy-er lines than you at berridale as I will be SPUA which is far more superior to SPOA. (JK)

So what .. I took teeth off the pinion on 235's with stock grearing and a 1.3 .. but stock gears with 35's and an S1 turned by a worked 1.6 I just twist T/case arms, diff housings and wheel bearings .. the crown wheel and pinion are fine ...
I am unsure how you can generate enuff traction on 31s to do in Zuk diffs .. evev on 33's with low gears and sensible application of power (as you have plenty of gearing so the thrash and crash method should not be needed all that much)
I am going heavier diffs as well as I want the brakes and bearings of heavier diffs .. as I may use the Zuk as a semi regular daily driver .. as I am selling my Patrol .. and still want to park on top of small cars while in the city

horses for courses. The Zuk stuff is fine for us in Vic with the bigger tyres and lower gearing than you in NSW. I feel confident I won't break stuff.
Also Hilux gear is certainly not indestructible either don't the Toyota crowd go to profields/longfields for 33" and over when locked and geared?

Yeah, but those axles are geneally lugging around a hilux, not a light weight zook. Under a zook i'm sure they'll be heaps strong. And as you said, there's always the aftermarket bits if you want/need to get serious.

I am not saying dont do it .. just run the 4.8's but run 35's .. with the 6.1 and 4.8's you should be able to pull the 35's Ok .. hell I used to run big old heavy bias swampers on just a 1.6 and stock driveline (when my 4.16 broke) .. so nice light 35inch radials with that gearing should be perfect ..
Dont go smaller that 35's with all that extra metal under you ..
I am sure mickbj42 would tell you the same thing

i will back you up
go the hilux diffs, but you have to go at least 35's, i would go 37's.
You can stretch the wheelbase enough and still retain the standard body. When i first built mine it had cut guards and 37's and there was no problem with the wheelbase. It is still going to be a daily driver so you will still drive it with a limited amount of control. The only reason for the tube on mine was that i trashed it and its cheaper than buying body panels.

i cant really get the wheel base out of it to run 35's but i will have a go
the wheels will almost be touching
should be some progress on it soon though
jamie (fourwheelin) whats your wheel base at?
micks was 87 but this was to short for his 37's
what have u gone out to now mick with the 39.5's?

my wheelbase will end up about 102-105 inches.
87 inches will be fine with 37's. It was only too short for the stuff we have been driving, or trying to drive.
Your zook is still going to be a daily driver so you wont be driving the sort of stuff that we normally drive, your zook will be absolutely trashed after 1 or 2 drives!! Look at how mine and matts zooks have been hammered, i dont think you want to do that to a daily driver.
85-86 inch wheelbase + SPOA + 37s...
Isnt that going to get a little scary on steep hills and drop offs?
I'd be trying to keep it as low as possible if it's gonna be that short.
But then I think about 37s compared to 33s and it's 2" higher. Will it make that much difference u reckon???
Bah, just do it, flip it and make a softtop
