Hi guys, anyone converted a diesel 40 series (BJ42) to a Chev or other V8 small block with the 4 speed tojo box?
Whats the scoop guys? Is it as easy as I think? ie conversion bellhousing, custom mounts (availability??) use diesel tank and lines, rewire for petrol engine, jobs done? Do diesel cruiser diff ratios go good with chevs?
Ta
i thought it would be easy to do too, its only taken about 5 months.
altho i removed the petrol all together and fitted gas.
4.11s are ok. bit revvy tho specially with a 4 spd on highways. fit 35s to fix this.
cheapest/easiest way is to buy a heap of shit with a chev/whatever and pull the bits off that and adapt them to yours. i got a chev, all adaptors, 2 diffs (1 is LSD), 2 gas tanks, powersteering (all from a 60 series) for 750 bucks. shouldda seen the bog on that thing tho.
Got a ex diesel BJ42 (5sp - 83 model) with a 308, works beaut off road and on road. No probs with standard BJ42 diffs and 35's. TonkaTuff has a 307 in an ex diesel (4sp) and thats fine to. We actually changed his G'box the other day after he bugger his old 4sp - heavy bastards - get a crane
In the UK, greenies picket against 4wd's - start killing greenies NOW before they take power!!!
