Hilux 3.0 5L Turbo Conversion

Post by doks »

I have a 5L 3.0 Diesel Hilux and want to fit the turbo from the turbo diesel.

It already has a Turbo Diesel Gearbox and HD clutch in it and only has 39k on the motor since rebuild.

Has anyone been through this?? Dollars are at a premium so I want to do it as cheap, yet reliably as possible so was thinking of trying to get all the Toyota bits off a 3.0 turbo diesel and fittign them...

Any info or suggestions/help would be appreciated as I dont really know what is involved and trying to work out what has to be done etc etc or even if it is worthwhile.

The Denco or DTS kits are out of my price range so hoping that 2nd hand parts would be cheaper.

If your talking bout the factory 3 litre TD that's in a Surf, then your out of luck cause it's a 1KZTE and very different engine to the "L" series.

Manifolds, etc. from a 2LTE (2.4TD) will bolt up to your 5L engine, tho the turbo may be a bit small.

Have fun.
