I've noiticed that once it hits about 2000rpm i can hear a slight tapping noise from the engine while driving.
Its a 1HZ with aftermarker turbo and about 200,000km.
I was thinking it could be valve clearances, but that would be noisy at lower rpm wouldnt it? mine doesnt start until 2000.
Thanks
Mike

If you do a search you will find a few mentions. Usually give or take between 1700 and 2200 revs with moderate acceleration is when you hear it. people have even rebuilt their engine only to have it still there. They reckon its something to do with the crankshaft and it supposed to not affect the longevity of the motor. Mine is the same motor with an aftermarket turbo makes the same noise and has 420.000+ on the clock and goes strong so hey adopt my attitude and worry about it if it goes bang. get a EGT guage (pyrometer) and a good temp guage and low coolant warning system and it all good insurance.

You should be OK, big end noises are areal dead type of knock usually, once you've heard the difference its easy to pick. But lets hope you never get to hear the difference..mike_nofx wrote:ok.. lets call it a tick then!oldmate wrote:true that. but it's more of a tick, then a tap.
don't get those two confused, because a tap can mean bad bigends!
So its normal, and nothing to worry about.
Thanks
