80 series stalling

Have an 80 series 4.5 on patrol/gas.

it starts on petrol then goes to gas once revs have reached 2000 rpm. Have not had a problem with it in a year of owning it.

Last two mornings car started fine, it has gone to gas. I have then driven 200 metres up the road and it has stalled. It then wont restart on gas or petrol. After a minute or so it will start on petrol.

Rest of the day there has been no problems and its running on gas.

Is this a gas issue? Or an issue with the car? Any thoughts?

i have heard of that happen with a ford that was to with the gas and the carby/ spark plugs did not like each other unless warm

Could just be the cold temperatures we have had, has been subzero in Sydney west the last few mornings.
Gas needs some heat to allow it to change from liquid (in the tank) to gas at the engine. Try running the car on petrol until the engine has reached operating temp?

sounds like your converter is freezing.

Have you checked your coolant level? You may have a small leak somewhere.

Or on some vehicles if your heater core is blocked or close to it the restriction in water flow causes the same problem

So first I'd check your coolant level, both in the radiator and overflow bottle. Secondly next time it happens lift the bonnet and check the converter it will probably be frozen (you'll see the white ice on it) pouring cool water over it will help it "thaw" quicker)

If it is this then you may have either a cooling issue or stuffed converter.

Basically he converter uses your cooling system to stop the gas freezing when it is being converted from a liquid back to a gas ready to be burnt (similar to the ice you see build up on the vent when a gas bottle is being filled)

I think it must have been the really cold weather we have had recently. If I rum it on gas for first couple of minutes then switch it aint an issue
