Diff breathers fj40?

Post by mellows40 »

G'day guys,

I have an easy one for you.. can anyone tell me what size tube spike and thread type I will need to get to put in extended Diff breathers in a standard 40 series front and rear diff? I would rather just go and buy them rather than take the standard little breather out ... then drive down to get one with the diff breather hole open... I don't want any crap getting in my diffs.....

Thanks

you cant just put fuel hose over the top with a hose clamp done up tight?
ive done it this way and seen this done and it works. utilises existing breather. unless yours has some issue this is the goods. then put a cheap fuel filter on the top and tuck them up the top of the engine bay.

my 2c on it.

I bought a kit of ebay, saved shopping around for bits and is sent to your door. Works well, has everything, I think about $40.

G`day..
yep I have seen em with tubes that run up into the engine bay then loop over and fuel filters connected to them as they have a one way valve built in. this is what I intended to do. just needed the correct tube spikes though.. cheers

And was that $40 x 4 or each ?

Dont get me the wrong Im not bagging him ,As long as hes happy with what he Paid for them then thats the most Important thing .

Yep, my old mechanic. wanted me to pay $60 for th rear breather and $40 for the front... thats why I'm doing it myself.....so $40 for the lot can sound reasonable. and for some it is. but I'm a bit of a tight a@#$

mate any auto shop will have the hose. but expect to pay a few bucks per metre if its the fuel hose. yeah buy cheap commodore or similar fuel filter whatever the cheapest one is. 4 small hose clamps. a dozen cable ties and you are sorted. $40 for the lot and an hr and you are done.

the ones i have seen on ebay were more pricey then $40 for the pair.

also on the convenience argument, it depends where you live too. as someone who doesnt have an auto shop within half an hr sometimes its easier to buy kits etc.
