80 Series Cent Lock Question

Post by westie »

Car has C/L but no remote, only Key C/L

The 80 bought a after market C/L with remotes. We have it working on the R/H door hopeing it would opperate them all but we were wrong.

Q1) Do we have to fit all doors with a C/L slave or can we utilize the factory C/L. If so where and what wires do I use also where do I pick them up from.

You can connect any aftermarket alarm that has central locking control to the wires on the 80. From memory they are in the drivers kick panel. Basically you need two wires, one operates the lock and the other the unlock feature, just as the lock button on the drivers door does already.

It's very easy to find if you have the wiring diagram and locate the wires in that kick panel that come out from the drivers door. I just used the wiring diagram in the gregorys manual to find the right ones.

And no, you don't need additional slave units or anything.

The factory system works by applying a a ground to 1 of 2 wires to lock or unlock
most aftermarket systems have an output like this normally 2 internal relays that have all the contacts connected to wires so you can either use it as normally open contacts ,normally closed contacts also you can choose if you want a positive pulse or a negative pulse by the way you connect the wires

in this case you need to connect the common to ground and the normally open contact to the wires that go to the door switch (the ones in the kick panel)
the way i find the wires is to remove the door switch take note of the wire colours then look for those colours in the kick panel once found then i check them with a meter back to the door switch to double check

once that is done if you get a probe connected to ground then you can trigger the wires one at a time(2 of them) to find which is lock and which is unlock

if you do it this way you still use all the factory central locking brain etc (stops you locking keys in the car when they are in the ignition etc)

No Lula did not break the 80, Daddy thought being as her brother said he is a wiz bang fitter of C/L. While he was down for out Emerald he could do his sister a favor. Lucky the key entry still works.

After Tough Tracks I will find a book and get the right wires and TRY and sort it out.

If there is anyone with a diagram on the right wire would be great.
