Beadlocks Internal or External
Hi all, I am looking at going to a set of beadlocks on my play tyres, just wondering what the general thoughts are to either of the above. I have mates with both and they all reckon theirs are the way to go. I thought that I was going to go internal unitl last trip when one car had trouble with them and ended up tearing the valve stem out of the inner tube. I know that they are illegal on the road but this is not a deciding factor. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The reason the valve gets ripped off the tube is because people don't know how to fit them properly. the inner bead rarely comes off as the bead is massive compared to the front (almost twice the size).
if your still worried core do a double bead lock (inside and outside bead) but you need a 17 inch rim or bigger to fit.
i had trouble with internals slow leaking because of crap in the bead, fixed it by running a bead of sicaflex around every tyre.

I had internal locks and they shook all over the bloody show. NO one would balance them, so i got them taken out and i threw them in the bin. Staun are usless, get external and enjoy trouble free motoring.

i reckon the 60 odd PSI that you can run in them isnt enough to fully clamp that bead, and during really big impacts the bead must seperate momentarily and let crap in before reseating.
worth noting though is that ive only used internals with 1 wheel & tyre combo, ie 37/10.5/16 on both 7 & 8 inch rims and i never air down below 10 PSI.
And i think the real facts! are that heaps of people have dramas with them and Stauns after sales service is pretty ordinary.
maybe Tirelok or Secondairs would be better.

I have had external locks on mine for around a year and haven't had one problem.
The critical thing is to get some one who knows what they are doing to weld them on. Get that part right and you'll have no issues.
I bought new unpainted rims to weld the ring on and then got them powder coated.
Even with them sitting around for 3 months between uses have never had them deflate.
