This is a serious question. i want more power and will not go to petrol.
I can get a 1hdt for about 3-4 grand. i understand they have roughly 120kw standard, with a fmic, around 18psi and 3 inch should be looking around 160kw...
Now how do i go with the electrics, do i need bigger fuel lines. a know i'll need to rear mount radiator but thats cool
And as for the gearbox.... do i get a 80 series straight up? the lux already has a 2inch body lift so theres a bit of space in the tunnel.
Has anyone done it???? Anything else before i get serious???
Whats your comments?

Wanted.... 4.88 or 4.56 front GQ diff center. Also wanted... GQ rear diff complete.
the 1hdt has sfa wireing fuel solinoid and startter and may need the glow plugs and shell run then its only the temp etc to do
but the 1hdtfe thats a diffrent kettele of fish with lots to do
but i would put a commings in her if not an isuzu motor

I think it would fit
I have a 1980 lux (much smaller engine bay) with a straight 6 in it i have the rad in the rear see pics below
i would not try the 80 series box as it has the outputs from the transfer all wrong
you would be better off with a r150 from a v6 lux
a 105 series 1hz belhousing will bolt straight up
it will be heaps strong in a lux
they are the same box as in the twin turbo supras
they have got a bad name in the hundred series but that is in the way they have the 5th in the tranfer or something (not the same problem in the v6 box)
i run a r150 in my lux i have a 2jz putting out about 300kw and 550nm so i think yours should be fine

Size it up for the engine bay, would be great but i think you might need a rear mount radiator to fit it in and as said before heavier springs (less flex).
As for the box i would be getting the whole engine and box complete; slap on an adapter plate and mount the lux tranfercase to it that way your outputs will be the same.
You will probably want to change the rear shaft to a straight shaft or you will be blowing out centre bearing quickly; might want to look at upgrading the wall thickness of your shafts too as you will be pushing alot more power through them.
Electrics shouldn't be too bad just make sure you get the whole loom.
Going to be a fair bit of work but if you know what your doing it should be great.

Sweet idea with the gills, you don't find they get clogged with mud
You make that or get it fab'd at a shop
they are quit big the grill is about 650mm wide each gill is 80mm wide the way they face rearward the mud does not get to the rad plus a shit load of air comes out and the mud just falls off as it drys
i whipped it up on a Saturday arvo

Aren't the fins facing the wrong way for air flow, or are they like that for another reason?, good idea though i dont mind it at all.

the intakes are at the front of the tray up high
the front of the tray on each side acts as a scoop behide each door
i have made an inertial seperator on the intake so that dirt ,dust, mud ,water cannot enter the radiator (they use this priciple on aircraft air intakes used in dusty dirty areas) how it works is it makes the air do a sharp 90 deg bend so anything with mass flys straight past ie rocks mud water etc
the gills you see are the outlets
i have used a hydraulic fan controlled by a micro processor and solinoid to vary its speed much more reliable in water and mud than electric has a crap load more guts to
the reason i did the tray this way is i wanted a completely usable tray and a low C OF G plus better vision out the back
top view of the rad install
cheers jonathan

this is not necisarily true, if you have the motor set up in there and work out the right spring rates, and only up rate the springs buy what is needed, you should get good flex.LuxyBoy wrote:Size it up for the engine bay, would be great but i think you might need a rear mount radiator to fit it in and as said before heavier springs (less flex).
.
as far as i know leafs works with weight, if you load up your leaf sprung truck with heavey duty springs, they won flex without weight, but add it and they state to get a bit softer, till you hit the load bearers,
but if you work it out to get them right there isnt any reason why you cant have good flex, a tuffer spring, and a nice strong motor.
Go Hard Or GO Home
the hdt would make the lux different thats 4 sure........wouldnt make much more power if any to a 1kz or the new did....then there is the 14bt, 15bt, izuzu landy donk...yada yada...not saying dont, but hey, many moons ago, i lost a wheel off the 60 towing a van, i called out H.E.L.P and this Izuzu dualcab tow truck with a 3.6 turbo 4 cylinder donk towed my cruiser on its tilt tray and my van off the towtruck/towbar thingy faster than the cruiser had ever gone on a highway unladen.... hey

Confucious say...man who argue with idiot, worserer himself
5L-T would net you about 85kw Max without having to start changing components- the 1KZ-TE 3.0TD kills the L series motors performance wise.dow50r wrote:the hdt would make the lux different thats 4 sure........wouldnt make much more power if any to a 5LT or the new did....then there is the 14bt, 15bt, izuzu landy donk...yada yada...not saying dont, but hey, many moons ago, i lost a wheel off the 60 towing a van, i called out H.E.L.P and this Izuzu dualcab tow truck with a 3.6 turbo 4 cylinder donk towed my cruiser on its tilt tray and my van off the towtruck/towbar thingy faster than the cruiser had ever gone on a highway unladen.... hey
The D4D 3.0L makes about 126kw and either 360 or 410nm depending on donor, but they are a horribly complex engine to wire- 3 ECU's, bout 100 wires in the main engine loom..... the 1VD's are even worse- 200 pin ECU anyone?
