Hello!
My friends at IH8MUD referred me to your site, since diesels is not something they see a lot of over there!
But first a bit about me,
I live in Denmark, I'm 33, engaged, like Toyota's, and just about anything that moves using wheels!
I have a 60 series project, but it keeps being pushed to the backburner by other projects, such as fitting a 1KZ-T to a 1975 Volvo 6x6...
By pure luck I stumpled upon a crushed 1HD-FTE, How i got it is a long and weird story, but here goes:
A friend of a friend had the damaged remains of a VX100 sitting in his yard. it originally belonged to a friend of his, who bought it in Germany, but lost interest in it. (read financial trouble) so the partly dismantled car had just been sitting there for years.
Finally it was to be scrapped, no doors, no wings, destroyed interior, major damage to the rear ect. but the engine and trans was there!
So I got it, if I wanted it. I pulled the wiring yesterday and the engine and trans today.
The weird thing is that a lot of parts, like the pump, plenum and other parts, have been removed, but were placed in the cab...? One of the diesel pipes is missing too? So it seems that somebody bought the car for spares at some point or started removing the engine and gave up... Probably after reading how hard it is to get running in another car!
My plan is to put it in my HJ60 (talk about upgrade!)
But... Im okay with a welder, electronics is not my forte!
I know that there's a lot of electroublnics on this engine, and I will figure them out, but I might need some help! So if any of you have - or know some who has - used this engine in a transplant please let me know what to look for!
One thing I know will be a problem is that the key is missing! Does anybody know a way around the immobilizer?

P.S: while scouring the forum for answers I ran across one who had put out a vaguely similar question about immobilizers and he was hung out as a car thief. I must point out that this vehicle was NOT stolen, but a rear-ended wreck imported from germany.

LCOOL.org may be a good place for some info on this.
But, without the key, you will need to change the immobiliser, and locks, for a new master key.
This isnt the case with 79 series stuff though.
Best way would be use the 100 wiring looms, gauges, etc etc, so the engine, trans, gauges are all from the same loom, and integrate the 60 loom for the rest into that loom.
I would also use the engine mounts, gearbox mount, radiator, air cleaner etc from the 100, as much as I could.

I dont have the master key, or even the door locks, the doors where of when I got the rest of the wreck. So I need some way of taking the immobilizer out of the equation...
Could it be removed from the pump?
But for the rest of your suggestion, that is exactly what I plan! The only thing missing is the air cleaner, it was broken to pieces...

The 79 ute version is a simpler conversion but will it deal with the immobiliser function in the pump. If the pump locks down somehow and needs the ECU to unlock it then the 79 ECU would not work.
I wold also be curious to see if the fueling would still be correct as the wagon has more differences than just the ECU and it's programming. The injectors and pump are apparently different whihc goes some way to accounting for the performance increase in the wagons.
Also it would be a shame to loose all that extra power. I would be investigating the immobiliser functioning and bypassing etc a little more before chasing a ute ECU. Over here there are guys reprogramming Ford ECUs to bypass body control and immobiliser functions for engine conversions so sooner or later surely someone will have tackled the toyota.
There is a business called Total Care 4WD based in Sydney New South Wales which has done several FTE conversions and many are from wagons. Most likely they will have keys etc but maybe they are bypassing the immobiliser functions too. But good luck getting info out of them they are doing it for commercial gains.
Have you tried chasing up the key through toyota seeing as you have access to the VIN and other vehicle details.
