CB aeirel quiery????
Probably better off posting in Auto Electrical... Depends really on what type of terrain you normally find yourself in.
Height of the aeriel has no impact at all on your transmitting /. receiving distance.
A higher gain aerial transmits/receives more like an oval shape so is better suited to flatter tarrain, whereas a lower gain aeriel transmits/receives more like a water melon shape so it is better suited to mountenous terrain if that makes sense.
A good allrounder is something like a 4.5db spring base (assuming you are mounting on a bull bar) independantly earthed GME which will cost you around $100
