Will drive shalfts out of 60 fit 47

Post by Mulcahy »

i have just brought a 60 series wreck to take parts off and i am taking the gear box, back diff and i was wondering if the front drive shalft and back drive shaft will fit on my 47 series as it is my understanding the 47 shalfts will have to be changed for the 5 speed

Thanks Shane Mulcahy

Shane, as the 5 speed is a couple (about 4 I think) inches longer you will need a shorter rear shaft and longer front shaft. you might be able to get away with the front, but I am not sure about the rear.

Does your 47 series have the hand brake on the rear wheels? I was under the impression that there is a cross member at the rear of the transfer case that can get in the way if you have the hand brake on the transfer case.

where abouts in FNQ are you?

OK, I am down the hill in Cairns. As far as I know the 47's had the rear housing with the 4 bolt pattern tube ends so you should be able to just bolt the 60 backing plates, brakes etc straight on. If you have the early housing it will have 8 bolts holding the backing plates on.

If you need the later housing (4 bolt) give me a holler, I have one floating around and you are quite welcome to it.

regards,

MB
