Hi Guys,
I run a Hilux 2.8 with a turbo 185kms. Previous to the turbo being i put a new head on as the old one got a little too hot and cracked. The motor had done about 5k with the new head then the hairdryer went on to witch i have been very happy with, it's running a conservative 8psi and EGT is at a safe limit of under 500deg but i had thoughts of winding it up to get more out of the old girl but i am concerned i'll loose reliability currently i never have too open the bonnet no matter how hard she's working and i love that fact If i run higher psi i'll run more fuel to compensate and too keep dewn EGT. Is it really worth it? Will i get more snot out of it? Will i be have a time bomb?
If anyone could help with advise or suggestions i would be greatful... Thanks

Re: Dailing up the Hairdryer
??? increaseing fuel will increase EGT's. fuel doesn't neccarly increase with boost, which is good as increasing boost can help lower EGT's, unless you push the turbo to hard and it heats up the air to much.Blinky900 wrote: If i run higher psi i'll run more fuel to compensate and too keep dewn EGT.
what turbo are your running?
the commonly used CT20 is fairly small and tend to heat the crap out of the air at higher boost.
also what injection pump do you have? does it have a boost comp?
if u put a boost controller in the airline going to the internal waste gate will it stop the waste gate from creeping (it only lets air threw at certain pressure) instead of the pressure slowly building and the waste gate creeping open.. slowing the spool of the turbo??
sorry its off subject a bit.. cheers, HTH

95 lux, Under Construction..
60% of the time it works ALL the time

Good information. I have been told that most standard turbos will only boost to 12 to 14 psi which in itself wont kill an engine. Its the egt's that will do quick damage and fuel supply will ultimatly govern the egt's and the boost. If anyone can correct me im happy to hear it as im about to go threw the saame process on my hilux.HTH wrote:if u put a boost controller in the airline going to the internal waste gate will it stop the waste gate from creeping (it only lets air threw at certain pressure) instead of the pressure slowly building and the waste gate creeping open.. slowing the spool of the turbo??
