Post by fatsogq »

gday 94 rx wont rev past 3k rpm have just changed the fuel filter and air filter then removed the 17mm banjo bolt on the pump to clean out the gauze filter but there was no spring or filter under that bolt, just a hole with fuel in it,its the black top non turbo motor 270k ,

Did it rev past that before?
Maybe air in the fuel filter?
Are you sure there was no gauze filter under the bolt, its a fair way down in the hole normally.

My guess is the gauze thimble, have a really good hunt for it, like just said it is a long way down in the pump.

we had a good look for the gauze filter but couldnt see/feel one and changed the fuel filter for a new one(was a lot of crap in the old one)and we bled the system, i'm not one to thrash my cars but i knew the old owner and he would have given it some stick but cant confirm this,i'll have another good look for that filter. thanks

It is down low and can't be seen really, try fishing with a small piece of wire. It's tiny and does block up causing probs.

Is your throttle lever actually touching the stopper bolt when held at full throttle?

Check for air in system, does it blow smoke when staying at 3000rpm, will it do it in neutral as well?

i checked that the peddle hits the stopper which it does with car running or not ,i've also checked the cable for slack but thats fine, theres definately no filter in the pump, and it does blow black smoke at 3k , i'm taking it out at the weekend and giving it some stick maybe its just sooted up? its a daily driver and its good on fuel doesnt overheat doesnt use oil no leaks etc , i'll check to see if it holds back in nuetral as well tonight
cheers

Also on the td42 there is a line from a pressure relief on the back of the rocker cover that feeds into the bottom of your intake box, take the line off the pressure relief and run it, see if it helps. If they get a bit blocked they build up pressure in the system and will stop your valves opening and closing properly, mine clogged and actually killed my engine completely, just stalled.
