its an excellent gas system and the guys who say its too hard simply don't know how to, mine was tuned when i first turboed it 2+ years ago and only 2 months ago went back on the dyno and was still in the same state of tune from 2 and a bit years ago...

I cannot praise Gas Research highly enough.

We ran it on our 3.9 Rover V8 moon buggy during the 2006 season of WE Rock and XRCC. The best move we made was getting rid of the AFM and computer and dumbing the engine down to run on straight gas. Never any fuel delivery problems. Never any ignition problems.

Gas Research made up a custom manifold for us and we proudly ran their stickers as one of our sponsors.

I am very close to contacting them again to gas my current Rover V8. My only dilemma is whether to keep the 3.5 or swap it out for a 3.9 first.

Spot on there... Only got it installed in my 4runner in the last couple of months after having an impco system. I will never EVER use an impco system again. Gas research can be tuned so much better, power is identical to petrol, and economy is reasonable (suffers the usual 20% extra usage). Oh yeah, mines dual fuel if you hadn't guessed :D

i used to run gas research gear on my last car, 2 litre turbo supra 6 pot motor in a corolla, was tuned by motsons, could not fault it, or their work with the gas. im sure there are other tuners out there though as everyone on this forum seems to jump on the anti-motsons band wagon.

if your interested in making it a bit cheaper, i have a near new convertor and rebuilt GRA S400 i think carby that came off that motor when i decided to go a bit stupid with it all and go chasing crazy power. If you want it, or are interested and wanna get it inspected, just shoot me a PM, id rather see if go to good use than waste sitting on my bench, so im not gonna ask the earth for it.

GRA gear isnt cheap, think it cost me about 1000 just for carb rebuild and new convertor, then the tuning on top of that.

well worth it though in my opinion

yep as everyone has said its all good i went from a impco 200 to a gas research setup no issues easier starting, better mixture control, easier piping

only issue i have is that it sticks open under 12+psi boost but that's with no extra return spring

on a n/a engine imo there a bit pointless but boosted is when they show what there made of

Good mixtures on gas, whether n/a or boosted, are always needed to avoid stupidly high combustion temps. I wouldn't say gas research is pointless on n/a, but I'd say impco systems are useless :)

I run Gas Research on my 180B and i think its great. Its so much cheaper (and cleaner) to get power out of them, plus they give you greater tuning flexibility. IMO they're a better option for boost too!

As said before, the only people that bag/dislike GR are the people that don't know how to install/setup properly.

jesus, thats alot cheaper than when i got mine. i either got stooged or prices have fallen, or one of us is telling porkies, im gonna dig my receipt out and check

pc man, mine ran upto 15 psi, never over because the bastard exhaust wheel in the turbo kept finding its way to my muffler when i tried it, never had any issues with it sticking.
im assuming your talking about the butterfly getting held open by boost pressure? sounds like you just need to tighten the spring up a little, or like you said, just fit an extra, but that looks messy.

GRA tested these up to 20 PSI and used to, maybe they still do? have on their website some good info on setting these up for boost. only reason they say you shouldnt is its possible to get a very small leak from the butterfly shaft as it wears. whether you would notice or not...i dont know

checked my receipt, prices are not broken down, but carby repair and custom rod in it cost nearly 500, and im sure the convertor was around 400, 175 sounds very cheap, but im sure your not posting that falsely.

as you said coxy, its very scary haha, i had it happen on my fresh built motor, first time on the street, got it up on boost, went to hit the brakes for a corner and it keeps powering along, took a little while to realise what was going on, watching it sit on the limiter for a few seconds when the motor was about 5 minutes old was a little nerve racking

Last time i checked the B2 converters were about $200 ex GST, and an extra $60 odd for the B2S (cold start primer kit). GRA carbies/throttle bodies were $400 ex GST.

I had to buy the alloy side plate with the bigger balance line fitting for mine, cost was about $60 ex GST for that. The original GRA converter had a plasic or bakelite side cover.

I don't do porkies that's what i paid for the last 3 sets i bought so look for new suppliers, and the B2 price is genuine not for the copy.

they do stick at high boost levels as the shaft is centered so the air flow doesn't try to close it like on a factory turbo car.

i believed you, i was surprised that either, im remembering numbers wrong, which im sure im not, so i got stooged by motsons on the convertor, anyway.

AFAIK, GRA never officially recommended use in forced induction applications.

As for different build quality etc, i have been told that the earlier units had ball bearings and the newer units had plain bush type bearings. No idea on the newest ones though.
