Hi James, the guy who's had them strengthened on daihard didn't go into what he actually had done (seemed to be keeping it secret....) - but he did have a Feroza gearbox for sale on there. I asked what had been replaced on it and he said the layshaft and something else? Doesn't mean much to me as I know stuff all about gearboxes. From what I can work out he's got a turbocharged Feroza and that gearbox was one of his previous ones that self destructed.

But if you go to the For Sale section you'll see it for sale- maybe try asking him directly? A lot of them on there seem to take great delight in keeping secrets!?

it had a new layshaft put in and all the syncros replaced....

Just found the post James- they're obviously the bits that go first.

I've PM'd him asking if he's got any tips for rebuilding them stronger. I don't expect a reply though....

No reply yet, but I did a search and found this:

It has a toughened gearbox, actually a complete custom designed internals, lost the front diff and axles already, waiting on $$$ for a Hilux LSD, turbocharged running 25-28 PSI.

The guy goes by "Mig" if you want go to Daihard and do a search for posts by him. ;)

Here's his reply:

I have installed a dog box with custom ratios.... rated at 800hp.

Reliability aint a prob anymore....

I've asked a couple more questions about if he's running a transfer case still and if it's a whole new different box or just new internals.

Some more info:

The transfer case is still connected but not being used.. I have used the daihatsu casing with all new internals.

The feroza has been lowered 4' with 18' custom wheels. All internals replaced ie pistons rods bearings head ported camshaft etc etc a T3 and custom front mount interccoler with a LT8 running the show on 20PSI...

I think I saw that Feroza. It was rocketing (and I mean rocketing) along Parra Rd in Sydney one night. It convincingly beat a tricked up Honda something or other. Low profile road rubber and lowered ... looked twice, that's for sure.

I bet it would surprise a few people off the lights!

I imagine it would be pretty scary to drive too, although lowering it 4" (is that even possible?!) would help. The brakes would want to have been upgraded.

How about you dont spend your hard earned money on that piece of crap and just concentrate on getting Roza back on the road!!!!!

A runner is just that.... a runner. And when it dies take the plates off it and give it to a bum to live in.

Thats my 2 cents worth

It should go alright as it is- the Rabbit GTI (read Golf GTI in Australia) was the original "hot hatch". If it's old and tired getting more power out the engine may only result in tears........ ie. another blown engine!
