hi guys just after some advice just been offered a el xr8 engine and loom at a price thats to good to pass up but was wondering how hard it is to install and what adaptor kits there are would be going into swb gq thanks in advance
Dellow does a kit for the ford V8 (windsor and cleveland) for around $900
However I did not like the engine mounts from dellow so I ended up making my own.
The only problem with the ford V8 is the front sump causes some clearance issues with the front diff. I put in a 4inch susp lift and then extended the bump stops so that the diff won't hit the sump. But you could probably get away with a lower lift.
The firewall also needed to be massaged with a sledgehammer to get a bit of clearance behind the cylinder heads of my cleveland, not sure if you will have similar problems with the windsor.

iirc the windsor is a smaller block (length) so shouldnt need much massaging.
i know of a guy who managed to fit an ebxr8 windsor to his patrol before dellows were around and its still running sweet, would definatly be fun, but i would be leaning towards the cleavo, just for the added punch

i have a rear sump on my cleveland and running a rear sump or bronco sump does not solve the clearance issues between the sump and the front diff, you still need to extend the bump stops as i mentioned earlier.

I am in the middle of putting an AUIII XR8 into my patrol. Just finished the full rebuild on the engine and taking the TB42 out of the Patrol this weekend. Does anyone have any tips on putting the Windsor into the V8?
I.e. What fuel pump I should use? I currently run on gas and want to go back to petrol and use a long range tank. Are there any restrictions on the size of an in-tank pump with a GQ fuel tank? Are the fuels lines good enough for the V8?
I have a custom sump and oil pick up so good there
Any issues with throttle cable and air intake?
I have the option of a GU gear box or GQ which is best?
Can anyone recommend a good auto electrician who has done this conversion before? Do I need to have the ignition switch from an AU for the ECU?
