Just wondering what every one's opinions are on any economical 4x4.
I know the new CRD's are returning great figures but do you know of any other rigs that are not too thirsty yet capable ?
I understand that a modified rig will drink more (i have a patrol 4.2TD with lift, tyres, barwork etc.) but am looking outside the box to see if there is something else. Old or new what ever make or model !
So to get the ball rolling here is my figures.
2000 Patrol 4.2 TD - Highway = 13-14 L per 100km
Town = 14-16 L per 100km

13L/100 on the commute to work- Which involved driving to the top of mt lofty and back 5 days a week. Its uphill ALL the way on the freeway.
Pootling around town will use about 10L/100, and highway is about 12L/100

cold wet late night, with a tail wind traveling from launcestion to Hobart.
Booting it, it has been know to emptied half an 80L tank in 20mins...

FUEL CONSUMPTION
2004 defender 90 TD5- Prior to big chip and intercooler upgrade- 8.7-9.2 l/100km
after chip and intercooler upgrade and 33's- 9.5-11 l/100km depending on driving style.
