Fuel Gauge not working anymore :(
Fuel Gauge not working anymore :(
Hi, ive been doing a bit of work on my patrol, mostly in the rear suspension area (ie replaced leafs, shocks) anyways, since then, my fuel gauge has stopped working.. (or maybe a day or so later)
ive cheaked the wiring near the rear, but all seems to be intact..
anyone have an idea what next to check? ive checked the fuses, they all pretty much seem ok..
kind regards

Re: Fuel Gauge not working anymore :(
If you have been working there and its stopped SINCE you worked there, you could have cut a wire, or unplugged something minor.
Other thing you could have shorted out something too....
Unplug and replug in all plugs see if it fixes it first..

Try a curcuit tester if you have one. If not (2 dollars from supercheap) OR (40 bucks for a good quality one if you do plenty of it)
Put the alligator clip on an earth - chassis or a metal part of the body thats linked to the chassis and test the sender's wires for any light (while the ignition is on).. If the light is on.. then the problem is up front.
Good luck mate.

Na mine stopped picking up fuel, but wasnt the pickup, was the tank, dont ask me how or why!
I borrowed a pickup off Sandy Bowman, and put it in and it didnt work.. Put the OEM tank back in and it worked.
These things seem to be failing a bit lately.. could just be that time of the month??
The easiest way to check the sender unit is to disconnect the plug from the unit itself (right hand side of the fuel tank just behind the wheelarch), bridge the connector with a split pin. Then go and watch the fuel gauge with the ignition on. If the gauge goes all the way to the top it is ok and the sender is faulty. If the gauge does not go up then either the gauge or the power source for the gauge is faulty in which case you should have an auto electritian look at it.
You should be able to have your gauge repaired, we have a shop locally that repairs all types of electrical item & he said he could repair mine for about $60 dollars provided he can get the right circuit board for the unit. Anyone who repairs tachos & other types of gauges should be able to do it for you. I would look int it as as someone has mentioned before they are about $180 from Nissan (wich is cheap compared to a Mazda one at $900).
