Hi wheel gurus or people who know more than me!! (wouldn't be hard).
I will start with the problem. I have a set of Performance Wheels 15x8 Outlaw style with neg 24 offset. They rubbed on the tie rod ends so a whacked on some 2" spacers. Problem solved???? Well the wheels (Balancing Weights) dont rub anymore but the extra 4" of track is most likely stressing my bearings, screwing with steering geometry and slightly illegal.
So about the offset? If I was to go from neg 24 to neg 19 offset would that place the wheels further away, or closer to, the tie rod ends? I can't get my head around this. Please help. I would ideally like to get rid of the spacers and choose a rim with the right offset but dont know what size offset to go for.
So with -24 and a 2" spacer I'm the equivalent of -49. Would the -44 offset you have create the same stress on bearings that I have with spacers and -24 offset? I only ask because I have read opinions that spacers are bad news. More importantly - What wheels have you got on your rig?
Its a BJ74, so pretty much like any 1980's Landcruiser front end I think. The wheels are a tight fit without the spacers and it was just the wheel balance weights chewing into the edge of the rubber boot on the tie rod ends.
Does anyone know if the weights can be moved to a different location on the wheel rather than on the inside edge of the rim? That would give me maybe 5mm clearance I think.

As far as I know, having a -49 with spacers or -49 from the rim would have the same forces.
How much do they clear with the spacers on?
That way you can work out what offset you need.

Ask for stick on wieights as the bang on ones are rubbing, that should fix the problem. -24 should be right for that car. I think wiener is using 15x10 rims hence the -44 offset.
It may be just the rim, have seen that happen before with mags. Get the shop to dry fit a 15x8 neg24 sunny and see if it clears or not not sure if you can get a bigger offset than that in a 15x8
Other option is to static balance with stick on weights in the centre of the rim. Mine are static balanced and the last 2 weekends went to brissie and back with no wheel balance wobbles
best thing is when you go down to the tyre shop tell them exactly what it is doing and they can have a look at clearance without the spacer. and should be able to advise you on what can be done to stop the rubbing.
But if it is only the weights that are rubbing on the tiierod boot then using stickons should help stop that problem.

Stick-ons sound like a good option.
I'll go down to the tyre shop and checkout the options.
The spacers make the cruiser look good but I dont want to use the spacers
if I can make the wheels fit.
