Airlocker or something else bung?

Post by Mud_Muncher »

Ok, my airlocker was leaking around the brass fitting. I fitted a new olive and rubber ring and tightened it up. Turned it on and NO leaks for at least 5 minutes (pump never came on at all). So i decided to jack the car up and spin the wheels. They seemed to do the same thing both times (airlocker on and off) as in one would spin one way and the other the other way.

WTF is going on? My understanding is with the airlocker on, both wheels should spin the same. I also thought that if the pump is not coming on (aka no leaks) the airlocker should be working unless a more serious issue.

Blown fuse ?
Can you hear the locker engage or disengage ?
When you spin a wheel does it feel "notchy" at all

brass olive? and rubber o-ring for the airline?. they either use a brass olive OR on later lockers use the rubber o-ring, not both. if you tighten it too much there is a possibility that you have blocked the air passage, hence no locker. look for leaks at the compressor end also using soapy water.

Or there is oil in the air line which would cause it to prime but not actually get air into the locker itself.

And they do you use both an olive and a rubber o ring. I fit them regulaly.

sorry, thought you were saying both on the blue line. once the bulk head fitting is tightened it is not a good idea to remove the small fitting, as this may upset the position of the line comming from the seal housing in the diff. if you have to remove the blue line make sure you have a spanner on the smaller fitting so it doesn't budge. allways replace olives and o-rings with new ones if you have taken them apart.
