Painting question

Post by ISUZUROVER »

Not the usual type of tech - and before anyone says it I have done a SEARCH!!!

I need to paint a top coat on part of a door and firewall corner I have just repaired on my Defender. The original paint was Dulux Acran, but the truck has been resprayed in 2-pak. I want to avoid having to paint the whole door and firewall. So what is best to paint over the 2-pac with that will blend in the easiest. I have sprayed cars in enamel and acrylic before, but I want to stay away from 2-pak if possible because it is extremely toxic and I don't have a booth or air supplied breathing apparatus. If the consensus is that 2-pak is the best option then I will get it done professionally, but I always prefer the CB method!!!

hopefully someone more qualified will chinme in, but from my experience painting joinery in 2-pack enamels and polys, nothing will stick to 2-pack but more 2-pack.
I have sprayed it at home without any breathing gear heaps and I am still alive and relatively sane? :D

don't be afraid of using 2 pac. it can be painted over with either acrylic, enamel or more 2 pac. most of the 2 pac these days is non toxic , just spray in a well ventilated area.
if doing c.o.b. its quite easy to blend with your base coat and then clear the whole panel.

hope this helps

You should have no trouble painting over the 2 pac with acrylic as long as the 2 pac has been on for at least 2 months.
I would paint it with 2pac again do it out side and make sure the over spray wont drift and land on other vehicles parked near by :bad-words:

yeah stick with the 2pac if it comes out bloomy just cut it back and buff it.and enamel will just about stick to anything.

Cheers, so does that mean you paint it like enamel - one light coat then a couple of heavier coats???

basically first coat is very light, then reapply with more light coats that are heavyer than the first..

let it flash off between coats for a good finish and less chances of runs, 2pack will run very easily
