Aftermarket ECU to run TBI on a Sierra

Aftermarket ECU to run TBI on a Sierra
Am looking at fitting TBI to my Sierra G13BA due to a stuffed carby (wax choke is dead). Have scored inlet manifold, throttle body and sensors from an 8V Sidekick (US Vitara) but don't have a computer for it.
Wondering what my options are. Am thinking maybe a MicroSquirt (miniturised MegaSquirt) would be the go at US$400? Any advice on these or other low end ECUs to control fuel only?

Yeah have been looking at the Jaycar one.
Not keen on spending the big bucks on a MicroSquirt, but also not keen on gimping my TBI setup.
I take it this means it has 3D mapping (ie any combination of revs and load), not just a 2D linear path with revs and load increasing. I don't see any mention of cold start adjustments / warm up enrichment or any of the other neat features of a MegaSquirt / MicroSquirt though. Kinda doesn't make sense to get rid of a carby cos the choke's stuffed, only to replace it with injection that likewise can't cope with cold startsJaycar wrote:It gives you the power to completely tune the air/fuel ratio throughout the entire load range, at 128 load points

Would an ECU from a TBI swift do the job?
Or just go to US ebay.

It sounds like that seller might be able to send you the loom as well so it would be more or less plug and play.

Just an idea, I am not zuk-oriented.

This is not legal advice.
On my rover v8 ECU, there's a resistor of specific ohmage across two wires if the vehicle is a manual, which I assume affects a few minor things like idle speed and overrun. However it works fine with a manual gearbox and without that resistor.Moph wrote:Hmmm, good thought chimp. I take it that to run an auto ECU on a manual car I would just need to find out how the 'Park' start postition is enabled and bridge it?
Obviously this is likely to be completely different on the zuk ECU but (a) it may be a bit more than just bridging two wires and (b) it probably wouldn't matter much.
... no idea on the Swift mapping. My only thought was that TBI is pretty basic tech and the differences would be more in spark timing than fuelling, so... shouldn't matter? But this is just my uninformed speculation.

I would have a good look at the Megasquirt. Relatively inexpensive if you build it yourself and lots of info on the internet with really helpful forums.

Me too unless there's a cheap plug-it-straight-in-and-forget-about-it option.David_S wrote:I would have a good look at the Megasquirt. Relatively inexpensive if you build it yourself and lots of info on the internet with really helpful forums.
