LS1 rear sump hitting steering arm
I have haad to lower my 80 so i can get it engineered with the ls1 and a few other things, now the sump hits the steering arm that runs behind the diff...
I have a rear drop sump and was lead to believe it clears everything.. apparently not.
any ideas on a way round this,? i thought of moving the diff forward but not sure if engineer will like this?
has anyone else had this problem?

Hammer or take it off and modify
have you put your drive shaft up for clearence
with the side of the sump and sender
or is it just an optical illusion

thats just an illusion buddy
are you selling the truck or do you wanna keep it?
if you have not had oil in it too long best thing to do would be rip it of an tig a bit of a dip into it to clear the arm
i would have said turn the arm up the other way ie ball joints down but the leading arms are in the way
I have my own tig and would not think twice about it but it would be quite cheap to do if you do all the fab work then just pay some one to weld it.
if you dont already have one buy an air body saw (air hacksaw) cut out the bit of metal that has to go then get a piece of 4mm material (you can still bend it) and make it fit then clean it all up
use some alcohol or thinners to remove all oil from the job even soak it if you can then leave it out in the sun for a day
find some one to weld it and its done

marks adapter is a modified rear drop sump, Rear drop only clears on lifted trucks, AFAIK the shallow rear drop camaro sump clears all.

Yes but what about oil supply on steep inclines?? I have a Camaro sump but am quite worried about starvation in rough terrain, how have you found it?killalux wrote:marks adapter is a modified rear drop sump, Rear drop only clears on lifted trucks, AFAIK the shallow rear drop camaro sump clears all.

You would have changed your oil pick ups aswell with the camaro sump. So going up hills, no dramas at all. Gowing down ive never had a problem either and usually your revs are low under engine braking. I havent had any probs on any angles... I was a bit worried and watching the light at first aswell.
