Navara lift

Post by Danny148 »

G,day

Was wondering if i raise the back of the navara (d22) 3 inches, can i adjust the front torsion bar so it will be level. Or should i just go with a 2inch lift in the back.

Cheers

You will get it close, but you will find the top arms will be hitting on the bump stops.

2" is the easier. 3" is about max with out major mods. if your going 3" i would bite the bullet and get one of the bigger lift kits. especially if you have winches etc on the front.
2" is nice bit of lift without a big cost.

G,day,

Cheers for the replys so far guys. So i went with a 3inch lift, the back came up all good and nice but the front is still down, even after the torsion bars are hitting the top bump stops. what can i do to get the front of the car the same size as the rear??? I heard that if you take out the torsion bar and give it a few turns you will be able to get more hight, is that true???

Cheers

If you want to get the front higher, you need to replace the upper control arms, I have a set here if you're interested, as well as the HD tie rods and idler arm brace, PM me if you're keen.

As far as i know that only torques it up more but does not give you anymore lift, you will need the calmini top arms to get it off the bumpstops or the ride will be harsh as, your rear springs will settle after a little time also.

to raise the front 2" you need to pull the torsion bar out, turn it (6 notchs??) and then adjust to suit. i'm told 3" is about max. if you carry loads in the rear then 2" lift in front and 3" in rear would work fine.

i run stock front, 2" rear lift due to the heavy loads that we carry.

G,day,

Well i winded up the torsion bars to the max! :D and teh car is still not level. I will try to take the torsion bars out and give them a couple of turns and than but them back, but heres a pic of the car right now, do you guys reckon if i pull out the bars and turn a few notches on them and put them back it will make the car level???

Cheers

I don't think it will do anything, have a look at your bump stops. I think you'll find its the down travel bump stop that the upper control arm will be sitting on, not the limit of the adjuster on the torsion bar, thats why upper arms fix the problem - they lift the upper bump stop striker plate enough to get about 80mm lift out of the front.

he hasn't got that far yet.
you only get about an inch or so out of the adjusters. to get even a 2 inch lift you have to pull the torsions out and turn them round a few notchs.
you should get 3" lift before hitting the stops.

one thing tho, try to get the lift and have the adjusters not sticking out. if they stick out turn ithe torsions another notch and screw the adjusters in.
if the adjusters stick out you run the risk of hitting them with a log/rock etc.
so leave the adjuster in stock position and just turn the torsions enough notchs to get roughly the height you want. use the adjusters for fine tuning.

G,day,

Well i finally lifted the navara front and rear 3inches :D the front as some of you guys suggested to take out the torsion bars and give them a few turns would do the trick, will it did. I got it up to 3inches exactly, only problem i hade is that i had to get 2 new shockies for the front because they were not long enough, but besides that it was all good.

Cheers again for the help fellas,

has it hit the stops? how much clearance on the stops has it got?

I don't know why you are smiling about it being on the bump stops? That means you have zero down travel and it will be crap off (and on) road.

i would drop the front a bit. 2" lift is ok on the front.
or shave the bump stops. tho i havn't had a look to see if it will hit anything else if you do cut down the stops.

i like the front slightly lower so when you load the ute up its not nose in the air.

Hence why i said it will do stuff all... and hit the bump stops.. no point in that, you might as well drive a old skool leaf sprung hilux...

Not sure where you live, but in QLD the legal beagles state that IFS must have 60mm downtravel. You won't have that sitting on the bump stops, and in the unfortunate case of an accident, and a good check of your car...you could be in trouble.
