Can't do it. The front is a H/P and the rear isn't. Just go with a front locker first...

The centers are interchangable, but yes the front is hi pinion so the rear in the front would foul the steering arm.

I have some of these centres sitting around as garden ornaments, I'll measure them tonight.
I know the ring gears are identical size, and the bolt pattern is the same. The only difference is the direction of the teeth. It makes it confusing knowing which gear to put on which centre :silly:
I'll measure across from the end of the side carrier bearing to the ring gear mounting face and we should know, I guess?

I think there is also a spacer ring on the LSD, maybe that is the secret?

Ben, just tell Scotty to save up for lockers.. he will be happier with a locker up front than an LSD anyway...

Everyone will be happier with lockers. Especially a 2.5 tonne tank like a long GQ family wagon! :D
I would have been happier if HE had lockers a couple of weekends ago :D

also carlton, it might pay to measure the depth of the side gears, sometimes LSDs need a little more axle trimmed off than a open centre, depending on the brand of manufacture  :?

i was talking about the length of spline engagement into the side gears, can be different and you end up doing one of these guys  cause the axle is sticking out by 3mm

yeah I know what he is going thru. My days of carefree spending are well and truely over... I have to start budgeting for every last thing now that we have a mortgage and the bub is on the way... at least I own the GQ.

Has he priced up a cheap locker like a lokka or something similar that he can stick in for the meantime?

Guys,

I was told the spline cound on the front axles is different to the back, SO, you may have a little dilemma.

Apparently, the MQ rearLSD has the right spline count for the front of a GQ, but the hemisphere has to be redirilled to fit the GQ crownwheel

I have not checked yet myself, so dont take myword for it, i may be about 4 others peoples liar.

The rotation could be a problem with the front diff in the back, but the other way around should be ok unless your running some high horespower monster.

I am thinking the splines and axle width are different.
Budget option is shim the LSD and mig up the front.
A day in the shed and its done. :D :D :D

the lsd in the rear is already shimmed up as much as it can b and we dont wanna weld the front as it will b hard 2 steer in the bush whereas the tight lsd will allow it 2 slip and turn easy.

hay all

i think you will find that the f and rear diffs are comptely different and arnt inter changeable at all as far as i know .
but the thing you could do

i was told that a GQ nissan f diff is the same as some navara rear diffs
and that these come out with lsd centers
so if you can find 1 of these lsd rears you could thro it in the frount of ya GQ (i think ) :?:  and i think axels are the same so no need for moding there ( but i could be wrong )

may be the same as pathfinder to  but not sure on this 1

ill ring my diff mate and see what he says

Ok, didnt want to say to much but yes with a few parts changed in the locker you can put a hi pinion front on the rear. been done but the crownwheel and pinion run backwards and is 20% weaker.

these meausurements are taken off carriers pulled out of an 89 SWB..

Front open:
Side gear depth - 70mm
Face of ring gear mounting surface to end of bearing mounting surface - 122mm
Overall width of carrier - 175mm
31 spine

Rear LSD:
Side gear depth - 72mm
Face of ring gear mounting surface to end of bearing mounting surface - 123mm
Overall width of carrier - 180mm
33 spine

So you're sizes are probably workable, but the axles won't work anyways...

the navara ratio is slightly different as well, probably not enough to worry about.
4.625 V 4.636 or something like that

howdy all

well what i could find is that some mq patrols have the same diff as well

but in navars i think it is the 04/97 onwards are the same

and in pathfinder i think it is 12/ 95 models

both these cars use the RD09 AIR LOCKER in the rear and thats what go,s straight in the front of ya GQ
so if you can get the lsd centre out of 1 of these i think it will fit straight in the frount of ya GQ

(as in replace the std gq carrier with the lsd hat and use the rest of your diff)

I think this info is right might pay to sus it out a wreakers first tho just to double cheek it
ill make another call tomorrow

Dude I am pretty sure if you look up ARB lockers they have an application chart which has all the axle sizes front and rear including the Navara range which may help in finding the right model.

right o

well what i could find out is that both these models use the same locker as in what fits up front in a gq
so if u can get an lsd centre out of either

pathfinder 12/95 and on
navara 04/97 and on

i cant see why 1 of these lsd wouldnt fit in place of the std carrier
but i would double cheak this at a wreakers maybe with an axel out of the front of ya gq

if i get a chance ill try and sus this out today i might be going naer the wreakers .
