I have a 5/2 electrically operated pneumatic valve.
It has 3 larger ports and 2 small ports.
I want to just have 1 inlet and one outlet - which I want to turn on and off the prtessure intermittently.
The vendor told me I would need to blank off two of the ports - but what do I do with the third???

See the schematic? you can tell that this particular one is a 3 position: From left to right: Flow out port 4, all closed, flow out port 2.
Ports 5 and 3 are exhausts, and port 1 is supply.
see if you can finda schematic on your valve, and figure out how it works, as the porting might be different.

What uni are you at Ben?? (I'm under the impression you work at one??) At Curtin, Euan Lindsay was the dude that taught us all the air control stuff. The ports are numbered 1,2,3,4 and 5
Port 1 is air supply to the valve,
Port two is where the air flows when the switch is in the 12 position,
Port three is the exhaust for port 2 when in the 14 position,
Port four is where the air flows when the switch is in the 14 position,
Port five is the exhaust for port 4 when in the 12 position,
Air supply goes into port 1, connect port 2 to the device, the pressure in the device will vent through port 3 when the valve is switched off, put an exhaust muffler/filter on port 3 if you want, block port 4 an 5.
