Removing shocks - can't seem to undo bolt!
I was just trying to remove one of my shocks today but when i was undoing the top nut, the bolt was spinning with it. How do I stop this - i couldn't see anything else spinning on the shock so i'm confused.
Should be a lflat on that top pin you can put a second spanner on to stop it spinning

And if you dont have a rattle gun, try these
As mentioned before, a spanner on the 2 flats at the top of the pin, or somehow hold the stonesshield, or if the pin is spinning inside the stoneshield- as I have had happen- pull the bottom of the shock from its mount and push or pull it sideways applying a lateral jamming force on the top shockmounts, which hopefully will be enough to stop the shaft spinning while you undo the nut.

That would a pin on top of the shock. sorry Jesse, but the OPs post, probably unintentionally, leads one to beleive that the shock in question is in fact a pin arrangement.
Maybe re read the OP
to answer the OPs question, try some bolt off or other releasing agent on the bold (pin) and allow to sit, then use a shifter on the flats on top of the pin to hold the shock while you loosen the the bolt. Once you have a couple of turns on it you should be able to hold the body \ stone gaurd if fitted if it still tight, otherwise you may have ter persaver with the flats and the shifter

You would be surprised by how many people have trouble with the pin spinning... nobody ever notices the flats on the end!

Haha, sorry, yes I did finally get it off!!! Thanks to everyone for replying with ideas!. In the end, there was no pin or anything which was weird. Bilstein shocks too - maybe this is a common thing for bilsteins? Anyway, what I ended up doing was using multigrips to grip the thread from the top while turning the nut underneath. Then, when i ran out of room to grip, i had to swap to pliers from below the nut. Worked eventually. Was slow, and my hands were sore for days after!
